Job Summary
The Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) is responsible for supervising and inspecting temporary works activities on site, ensuring compliance with certified designs, approved drawings, method statements, company procedures, and project requirements.
The role involves supervising the installation, use, maintenance, and dismantling of temporary works; conducting site inspections; monitoring construction activities; and supporting the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) in ensuring that all temporary works are implemented safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) in implementing the project Temporary Works Procedure and ensuring compliance with approved designs and project requirements.
- Supervise the installation, use, maintenance, modification, and dismantling of temporary works, ensuring compliance with certified designs, approved drawings, specifications, and construction sequences.
- Ensure that the latest approved temporary works drawings, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and relevant technical documentation are available and understood by the construction teams before commencing activities.
- Prepare and maintain temporary works inspection checklists and conduct regular site inspections to verify that materials, components, connections, bracing, foundations, and other structural elements comply with approved designs and specifications.
- Inspect temporary works at critical stages, including before loading, concrete pouring, changes in loading conditions, unloading, and dismantling, ensuring that all required hold points are properly observed.
- Maintain accurate inspection and monitoring records, ensuring that identified defects, non-conformances, and unsafe conditions are promptly reported to the TWC and appropriately addressed.
- Support the temporary works permit process by completing the required inspections and verification records, ensuring that no temporary works are loaded, used, modified, unloaded, or dismantled without the necessary approvals and permits.
- Monitor temporary works throughout their service life, ensuring that periodic inspections and maintenance are carried out and that any deterioration, movement, damage, or changes in site conditions are promptly reported to the TWC.
- Identify and report any deviations from approved designs, unauthorized modifications, or unforeseen site conditions to the TWC, ensuring that no changes are implemented without the required engineering review and approval.
- Coordinate with construction teams, subcontractors, site engineers, and the TWC to ensure that temporary works activities are properly supervised and that technical issues are resolved before proceeding with the works.
- Brief construction teams and subcontractors on approved installation and dismantling sequences, loading restrictions, safety requirements, and applicable inspection and hold-point procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant technical or vocational qualifications and temporary works-related training certificates.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant construction experience, including at least 3 years in temporary works supervision or related site supervision activities.
- Proven experience on major infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, underpasses, tunnels, or major concrete structures.
- Strong practical knowledge of temporary works systems, including formwork, falsework, scaffolding, excavation support, structural shoring and propping, working platforms, and temporary structural supports.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Working knowledge of BS 5975, applicable Saudi Building Codes, and temporary works inspection and permit procedures.
- Strong site supervision, communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with construction teams, subcontractors, and site engineers.
