Job OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer – Substation & Power Transmission to join our Dubai Design Hub, supporting HV/EHV substation and power transmission projects across the Middle East and Africa.
This is a hands-on civil design position within the Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) / Substation / EPC sector.
The successful candidate must have proven experience in civil design for HV/EHV AIS/GIS substations, preferably involving 132kV, 220kV and 400kV projects.
Substation civil design experience is mandatory. Candidates whose experience is mainly in general construction or site supervision without direct substation design experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities Perform civil design for HV/EHV AIS and GIS substations, including 132kV, 220kV and 400kV projects. * Prepare and review civil design drawings and engineering deliverables covering: * Substation general civil layouts * Site grading and earthworks * Internal roads, paving and access areas * Stormwater drainage systems * Cable trenches, ducts and underground utilities * Transformer foundations * GIS/AIS equipment foundations * Control buildings and GIS buildings * Boundary walls, fencing and gates * Steel structure foundations and associated civil works * Prepare and review civil/structural design calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs and technical documentation. * Review geotechnical investigation reports, soil data and topographical surveys and incorporate relevant requirements into the design. * Coordinate with Primary Electrical, Secondary Electrical, Structural, MEP and other engineering disciplines. * Coordinate civil interfaces for transformers, GIS/AIS equipment, cable systems and other substation equipment. * Review vendor drawings and ensure all civil interfaces are correctly incorporated into the overall design. * Participate in technical/design reviews with clients, consultants, utilities and EPC project teams. * Ensure designs comply with applicable international standards, utility requirements, project specifications and client requirements*. * Provide technical design support during construction and project execution when required.
Mandatory Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering or related discipline. * Minimum 5 years of relevant civil design experience. * Hands-on civil design experience in HV/EHV substations is mandatory. * Proven experience with AIS and/or GIS substations. * Experience with 132kV / 220kV / 400kV substations is highly preferred. * Strong technical knowledge of: * Substation civil layouts * Grading and drainage * Roads and paving * Cable trenches and duct banks * Transformer foundations * GIS/AIS equipment foundations * Control/GIS buildings * Underground utilities * Strong proficiency in AutoCAD. * Ability to independently prepare and review civil design calculations, drawings and engineering deliverables. * Good understanding of multidisciplinary interfaces within Power Transmission / Substation EPC projects*.
UAE / GCC RequirementUAE or GCC substation project experience is strongly preferred.
Candidates without previous UAE/GCC experience must currently be based in the UAE and available for an interview in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
Candidates currently based outside the UAE without relevant UAE/GCC experience will not be considered at this stage.
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with power utilities, EPC contractors or engineering design consultants. * Middle East power transmission and substation project experience. * Experience with Civil 3D, Revit and/or BIM is an advantage. * Experience with structural design software such as STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE or equivalent is an advantage. * Knowledge of applicable BS, Eurocode, ACI and other international engineering standards*. * Familiarity with utility/client design standards and technical approval processes.
