JOB PURPOSE:
The Station Planner plans the end-to-end flow of imported grains from vessel arrival to delivery. The role owns the discharge plan, the allocation of grain across silos and flat storages, and the scheduling of the headhouse loading points, with the aim of delivering grains at the lowest total cost while keeping storage and loading capacity fully and safely utilized.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Vessel Discharge Planning
- Prepare the discharge plan for each grain vessel based on ETA, cargo quantity, berth window, and available storage capacity
- Recommend the vessel discharge sequence, with its cost and storage impact, to the President of United Grains, who approves the final sequence
- Coordinate with the terminals operations team to minimize vessel time at berth and avoid demurrage
Silo & Flat Storage Planning
- Plan the allocation of incoming grains across silos and flat storages to maximize capacity utilization and avoid congestion
- Maintain a daily stock position by silo, station, and flat storage, including quantity, vessel/lot, and age of stock
- Plan stock rotation (first-in, first-out) and grain transfers between storages to protect quality and limit losses
Headhouse & Loading Planning
- Schedule headhouse loading points to match station demand, truck availability, and silo/flat-storage stock
- Balance loading between silo and flat-storage sources to maximize headhouse throughput and minimize truck waiting time
Delivery Cost & Station Supply
- Plan barley deliveries to each station to meet demand and target stock cover at the lowest total landed cost
- Optimize the cost chain from vessel to station, covering demurrage, handling, storage, shifting, and transport costs
- Report cost per ton delivered by station and recommend actions to reduce it
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Publish daily and weekly reports on vessel line-up, discharge status, storage and headhouse utilization, and station stock, and keep ERP data accurate
- Identify and drive improvements in discharge rates, storage utilization, and delivery cost
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years in port, bulk terminal, or grain storage operations planning, ideally with dry bulk vessel discharge and silo management.
