ABOUT THE JOB
De Art is seeking a curious and detail-oriented Digital Art Researcher to explore visual arts, investigate artistic practices, and develop well-researched material that supports the platform's editorial and cultural activities.
This role focuses on researching artists, art movements, historical and contemporary artworks, visual culture, and emerging developments in the art world. The researcher will help transform reliable information and thoughtful analysis into accessible resources for a broad audience interested in discovering and understanding art.
The ideal candidate combines research skills, visual awareness, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to communicate complex artistic and cultural subjects clearly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Research artists, art movements, artistic techniques, exhibitions, and significant developments in visual arts.
• Investigate the historical, cultural, and conceptual contexts behind selected artworks and artistic practices.
• Identify emerging artists, underrepresented perspectives, and interesting developments in contemporary art.
• Gather and verify information from reliable sources, including museum collections, exhibition catalogs, academic publications, artist websites, and cultural institutions.
• Prepare research briefs, artist profiles, artwork descriptions, timelines, and background notes for editorial use.
• Develop accurate references and source lists to support articles, social media content, and other digital publications.
• Research connections between traditional art, contemporary practices, digital art, photography, design, and new forms of visual expression.
• Verify artist names, artwork titles, dates, materials, provenance information when available, and image attribution requirements.
• Collaborate with editors, content curators, and visual content teams to identify research opportunities and develop content ideas.
• Maintain organized research records and contribute to a growing knowledge base of artists, artworks, movements, and cultural topics.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Art History, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Cultural Studies, Art Theory, Humanities, or a related field.
• Strong interest in visual arts, artistic movements, contemporary art, and visual culture.
• Excellent research, information verification, and analytical skills.
• Ability to evaluate sources critically and distinguish reliable information from unsupported claims.
• Strong writing skills, with the ability to summarize complex subjects in clear and accessible English.
• Good understanding of art terminology, artistic techniques, and the cultural contexts of artworks.
• Familiarity with digital research tools, online museum collections, academic databases, and cultural publications.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, attribution, and intellectual property considerations.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple research topics, and meet agreed deadlines.
• Experience with art research, academic writing, cultural publishing, museum projects, galleries, or digital art platforms is an advantage.
• Knowledge of additional languages or regional art histories is welcome.
