JOB DESCRIPTION — CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

Position: Chief Accountant
Physical Location: Lebanon
Allocation: Lebanon
Coverage / Scope: Levant (Jordan, Lebanon, Syria) fully coverage of accounting team in Jordan and handling the AR and AP of Lebanon and Syria Team by Jordan Team.
Job family: Chief Accounting / Country or Regional Accounting Leadership. This role is responsible for ensuring complete, accurate, timely and controlled accounting activities across the stated coverage, with clear ownership of local statutory requirements and Group reporting requirements.
v Role Purpose
Provide accounting leadership for Lebanon, with full accountability for the integrity of the accounting records, close, reconciliations, controls and management reporting. The role also provides regional coordination where the stated scope requires cross-country AR/AP or accounting oversight.
v Geographic and Organizational Coverage
· Primary physical base: Lebanon.
· Formal allocation: Lebanon.
· Required coverage: Levant ( Lebanon) fully coverage of Accounting team in Lebanon.
· Where the role has regional coverage, the incumbent must operate consistently across entities and coordinate with local teams while respecting country-specific statutory and banking requirements.
· The role must maintain standardized accounting processes, documentation and reporting while escalating country-specific exceptions to the relevant Finance leadership.
v Key Responsibilities
· Lead the accounting function for the assigned country/region and ensure complete, accurate and timely books and records.
· Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close calendar, review reconciliations and approve material journals and account analyses.
· Maintain the chart of accounts, accounting policies, closing procedures, approval matrix and accounting controls in line with Group policy and applicable IFRS.
· Supervise, coach and allocate work across GL, AR, AP, treasury and cost-control resources within the assigned scope.
· Review AR ageing, collections, customer balances, credit notes, retentions, advances, unbilled revenue and expected credit loss considerations.
· Review AP ageing, supplier reconciliations, GRNI/accruals, advances, debit/credit notes, payment proposals and vendor master controls.
· Review bank, cash, intercompany, tax, payroll and balance-sheet reconciliations and ensure timely clearance of reconciling items.
· Coordinate statutory accounting, tax/VAT/WHT/e-invoicing requirements and external audit support with local advisers where required.
· Oversee intercompany accounting, confirmations, settlements, foreign-currency revaluation and elimination-ready balances.
· Monitor accounting data quality and transaction processing in Odoo/ERP, including master data, dimensions, analytic accounts, projects and cost centers.
· Prepare and/or review monthly management reporting packs, trial balances, balance-sheet schedules, cash-flow information and variance explanations.
· Partner with FP&A, Commercial, Operations, Procurement, HR/Payroll, Legal and project teams to ensure accounting reflects the underlying business transactions.
· Identify control gaps, implement corrective actions, automate repetitive accounting activities and continuously improve close and reporting efficiency.
· Review work prepared by junior accountants within the assigned process and provide technical guidance and quality control.
· Act as a key escalation point for complex reconciliations, unusual transactions and cross-functional accounting issues.
v Month-End, Quarter-End and Year-End Close
· Follow the approved close calendar and submit all assigned schedules, journals and reconciliations within deadlines.
· Ensure proper cut-off for revenue, costs, AP, AR, payroll, inventory/WIP, accruals, prepayments and other balance-sheet items as applicable.
· Investigate unusual balances and material movements and provide clear explanations.
· Maintain audit-ready working papers and evidence for all material balances and adjustments.
· Support management reporting and external/statutory reporting requirements.
v IFRS, Accounting Policy and Compliance
· Apply Group accounting policies and relevant IFRS requirements consistently.
· Support IFRS 15 revenue recognition and project accounting where applicable, including contract assets/liabilities, billing versus revenue, WIP and percentage-of-completion inputs.
· Apply appropriate treatment for provisions, expected credit losses, leases, foreign exchange, inventory/WIP, fixed assets and intercompany balances as relevant to the role.
· Maintain evidence of local tax/VAT/WHT/e-invoicing compliance and coordinate with tax specialists/advisers where required.
· Escalate non-routine or material accounting judgments to the Finance leadership.
v ERP, Data and Automation
· Use Odoo/ERP as the system of record and maintain accurate dimensions, projects, cost centers, analytic accounts and master data within the role's authority.
· Ensure transaction processing is supported by approved source documents and follows segregation-of-duties requirements.
· Use Excel and, where available, Power Query/Power Pivot/Tableau or reporting tools to automate reconciliations and recurring reports.
· Identify manual, duplicate or error-prone activities and propose system/process automation.
· Participate in ERP testing, UAT, master-data governance and process improvements affecting the accounting function.
v Internal Controls and Risk Management
· Comply with approval matrices, segregation of duties, access controls and documented accounting procedures.
· Maintain complete supporting documentation and an audit trail for all transactions and adjustments.
· Identify control failures, unusual transactions, duplicate payments, unsupported balances or potential fraud indicators and escalate immediately.
· Support internal and external audits and close audit findings within agreed timelines.
· Protect financial information and maintain confidentiality.

· Approve/review transactions only to the extent permitted by the formal approval matrix.
· Escalate material, unusual, disputed, high-risk or policy-sensitive transactions to the appropriate finance leader.
· Do not bypass segregation of duties or create unsupported manual adjustments.
· For regional roles, resolve operational matters locally where possible and escalate cross-country issues that could affect consolidated reporting, cash, tax or compliance.

v Qualifications and Experience
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
· Professional accounting Certification (IFRS) is a MUST.
· Strong knowledge of double-entry accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting and internal controls.
· Strong Excel skills; experience with Power Query/Power Pivot/Tableau and ERP systems such as Odoo or SAP is highly desirable.
· Ability to work with multi-entity, multi-currency environments and maintain disciplined supporting documentation.
· Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills.
· Fluent professional English; Arabic is advantageous for regional roles.
· Typically 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
· Experience managing multi-entity and/or regional accounting teams is strongly preferred.
· Experience with GCC and/or Middle East statutory environments and multi-currency accounting is highly desirable.
