Dürr Systems Arabia LLC is looking for a Biologist / Site Coordinator – Vertical Farming to join our Vertical Farming Project in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
The role will initially support and coordinate on-site activities during the installation and commissioning phase of the vertical farming system. As the project moves into the growing and operational phase, the role will increasingly focus on plant health, crop performance, growing conditions, nutrient management, water quality, and other biological aspects of the system.
Responsibilities during Plant Installation
- Manage and coordinate daily activities at the project site.
- Coordinate activities with Project Management, Engineering, HSE, Quality, and other relevant teams.
- Identify site issues, delays, and risks, and escalate them to Project Management as required.
- Organise and participate in regular site coordination meetings.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment availability, site-access requirements, and site logistics.
- Provide support with travel arrangements and organisational matters for international staff working on site.
- Perform other project-related duties as assigned by Project Management.
Responsibilities Following Plant Installation and the Start of Crop Production
- Monitor plant health, growth, and overall crop performance within the controlled environment farming system.
- Monitor and evaluate environmental growing conditions, including temperature, humidity, lighting, and other relevant parameters.
- Support the monitoring and optimisation of nutrient solutions used in the growing system.
- Monitor water-quality parameters, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), and other relevant indicators.
- Identify signs of plant stress, nutrient deficiencies, disease, or pest-related issues, and recommend appropriate corrective action.
- Assist with crop trials, testing activities, and the optimisation of growing conditions.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and technical teams to identify biological requirements affecting the performance of the controlled environment farming system.
- Support troubleshooting related to crop health and growing conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of observations, test results, treatments, and crop performance.
- Support hygiene, sanitation, and contamination-prevention practices within growing areas.
- Stay informed about relevant developments and best practices in controlled-environment agriculture.
Skills
- Background in Biology, Plant Biology, Agricultural Science, Horticulture, Plant Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Good understanding of plant health and growing conditions.
- Knowledge of controlled-environment agriculture or vertical farming is an advantage.
- Good coordination and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with technical and engineering teams.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Taif.
- Willingness to learn the technical aspects of the vertical farming system
