JOB PURPOSE
To plan and direct engineering activities in order to improve organizational performance by providing leadership and direction, overseeing technology transfer of new products/processes and improving product quality and reliability while overseeing facilities, utilities maintenance and installation for all manufacturing facilities in order to ensure continuous operations with minimal downtime and target facility operation.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy:
Participates in the development of the departmental strategy in line with the functional strategy to ensure vertical alignment and horizontal integration with other interfacing departmental strategies across Engineering Department. Ensures that departmental strategies and related strategic plans are developed and implemented, which are aligned with the vision and mission of Engineering Department
Policies, Processes & Procedures
Recommends improvements to departmental policy and directs the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of Engineering Department activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers.
Budget
Oversees the consolidation and recommends the Engineering Department budget and monitors financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalised upon.
Projects
Leads and guides project management teams in the planning, organising, management and control of various projects in order to ensure that the project cycle is completed meeting agreed project parameters (cost budget, timelines, scope and quality), standards and objectives.
Job Specific Accountabilities
- Oversees and manages New Product Introduction, Testing, and Sustaining Engineering functions to establish and improve manufacturing processes, and product quality to meet company goals and objectives.
- Ensures all preventive maintenance procedures are followed by equipment technicians on time in order to ensure compliance for all manufacturing facility equipment.
- Oversees spare part stocks to ensure availability of critical spare parts to all manufacturing equipment.
- Directs new equipment selection, procurement and installation to meet current business needs Oversees FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test) for all new equipment to ensure that all new equipment meets user required specifications and GMP guidelines.
- Minimises downtime for equipment by implementing equipment maintenance best practices to ensure minimal impact to business and operations continuity.
- Leads CAPEX (capital expenditure) allocation and follows up on CAPEX items procurement to optimise spending based on business priorities and zero CAPEX carried forward.
- Ensures all maintenance staff are equipped with suitable tools to perform needed maintenance activities effectively and safely.
- Works with development, operations, and supply chain to reduce COGS and improve product reliability Manages the transfer of new products to manufacturing to ensure that the design for both manufacturability and testability has been incorporated.
- Directs all facility infrastructure maintenance including routine checks to maintain facilities up to GMP standards and ensure readiness for audits.
- Ensures environmental monitoring and control for all facilities to meet in-house standards, general guidelines and GMP standards.
- Manages utility maintenance and supply to all facilities as per operational business needs to maintain supply of utilities to all required business units.
People Management
Manages the effective achievement of Engineering Department departmental objectives through setting individual targets, developing and motivating staff in order to maximize subordinate performance.
Continuous Improvement
Stimulates subordinates and contributes to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
Minimum Experience: 12-15 years relevant experience in engineering including at least 3 years in positions of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities.
