Salary: CA$1,850 - CA$2,500, based on experience
Hours: Full overlap with EST, 9am to 5pm
Location: Remote, worldwide
Payment is made in Canadian dollars (CAD), so your USD equivalent will vary with the exchange rate.
The role: You own full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of eCommerce client files. Reconciliations, A/P, A/R, journal entries, month-end and year-end close. You are responsible for the numbers being right and delivered on time. Our clients are 7 to 9-figure eCommerce brands, usually in high growth. You work to a five-day close.
Must have
- A professional accounting qualification: ACCA, CPA, CA, CIMA, ACA, Contador Público, or your country's equivalent. In progress counts.
- 3+ years in accounting, in a firm or international multi-client environment
- Full cycle bookkeeping: reconciliations, A/P, A/R, journal entries, accruals and prepaids
- Experience owning a month-end close, not just supporting one
- QuickBooks Online or Xero experience. We will fund your QuickBooks Online certification during onboarding if you do not have it.
- Experience working with clients or employers outside your own country, ideally US, Canada, UK or Australia
- English strong enough to speak directly with North American clients. You can hold a live call, explain a variance, push back on a request and be understood without the other person working at it.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- eCommerce or consumer goods clients
- Inventory and COGS experience
- Sales tax and multi-jurisdiction compliance
- ClickUp or similar project management tools
What you will do
Own full-cycle bookkeeping across a portfolio of client files
Run month-end and year-end close: schedules, balance sheet tie-outs, timely reporting
Record payroll entries, prepaids and accruals accurately
Manage sales tax filings, remittances and compliance across jurisdictions
Review your own work before it goes up. Self-review is part of the job.
Identify automation opportunities and suggest workflow improvements
What the job actually looks like
- Month-end is the most demanding period of the month and falls within the first ten business days. It eases considerably after that.
- You are expected to book around 39 hours a week to client work.
- You own your files. Your manager reviews; they do not do it for you.
- Some of our processes are mature, and others are still being built. When you hit a gap, we expect you to help close it.
This role is not for you if
- You want work handed to you in pieces rather than owning a file end to end
- You would rather not speak to clients
- Working full EST hours would be a strain on your health or your life
- You want a process that is already finished
- Your current role is AP only, AR only, or audit rather than full cycle accounting
Benefits
- Paid time off, Me Days, statutory holidays in your country, year-end company closure
- Certifications and internal training paid for
- Promotion from within based on performance and impact. Several of our leaders started in more junior roles.
- Fully remote, async first
Process
- Apply via Typeform. Short questions and a brief audio answer. No cover letter.
- Intro call with the People Team, 30 minutes
- Practical assessment, reviewed by our technical team
- Final interview with accounting leadership
