A Tower Crane Operator controls heavy lifting equipment mounted on high vertical masts (tower cranes) to lift, move, and position heavy materials, machinery, and structural components across construction sites. they work closely with ground crews to ensure safe, precise site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation: Operate levers, foot pedals, and joysticks to hoist, swing, and maneuver heavy loads—such as steel beams, concrete panels, forms, and equipment—into precise positions.
Pre-Operational Inspections: Perform daily safety and mechanical checks on crane components, cables, brakes, and electrical/hydraulic systems before starting operations.
Load Management: Calculate load weights, check load charts, and stay strictly within the crane's rated lifting capacities to avoid tipping or structural failure.
Signal & Radio Communication: Maintain constant radio contact or follow visual hand signals from signal persons, riggers, and ground crews during blind lifts or complex maneuvers
Weather & Environmental Monitoring: Monitor wind speed, rain, and site conditions, halting operations if weather exceeds safe operating parameters.
Assembly & Maintenance Support: Assist specialized crews during the erection, climbing (jacking), and dismantling of the tower crane, and perform minor maintenance or log technical faults.
