The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Profitability Specialist to lead profitability analysis, performance measurement, commercial analytics, financial modeling, profitability forecasting, and profit-improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will combine strong financial and commercial expertise with advanced analytical capabilities to identify profitability drivers, assess product and customer economics, evaluate strategic opportunities, and translate complex financial information into practical recommendations that improve sustainable business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- * Develop and implement profitability-analysis frameworks, methodologies, standards, and reporting processes.
- Establish consistent definitions and calculation methodologies for profitability across products, services, customers, projects, channels, markets, and business units.
- Analyze gross profit, contribution profit, operating profit, and other relevant profitability measures.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual profitability reports for management.
- Analyze actual profitability against budgets, forecasts, targets, prior periods, and business expectations.
- Investigate significant changes in profitability and identify underlying business drivers.
- Perform detailed profitability analysis by product, service, customer, contract, project, channel, geography, and business unit.
- Analyze revenue, pricing, volume, product mix, customer mix, cost, discount, rebate, and operational impacts on profitability.
- Conduct price-volume-mix and profit-bridge analysis to explain changes in financial performance.
- Develop profitability models to evaluate the economics of products, services, customers, contracts, projects, and business initiatives.
- Assess customer profitability and identify high-value, low-value, and loss-making customer segments.
- Analyze customer acquisition, servicing, fulfillment, retention, and support costs to determine customer-level economics.
- Evaluate product and service profitability throughout the lifecycle.
- Identify products or services with declining, insufficient, or unsustainable profitability.
- Assess profitability by sales channel, distribution model, market, and geographic region.
- Analyze contract and project profitability, including revenue assumptions, direct costs, overheads, commitments, and expected margins.
- Support Sales and Commercial teams with profitability analysis for tenders, bids, negotiations, renewals, and new business opportunities.
- Develop business cases and financial models for new products, services, markets, partnerships, investments, and strategic initiatives.
- Evaluate the financial attractiveness of proposed commercial opportunities.
- Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess potential profitability under different assumptions.
- Model the impact of pricing changes, discounts, rebates, volume changes, cost movements, and customer behavior.
- Support pricing decisions by providing profitability thresholds, scenarios, and recommendations.
- Evaluate commercial terms and identify potential profitability risks before commitments are finalized.
- Monitor actual profitability of major contracts, customers, products, and strategic initiatives against approved business cases.
- Conduct post-implementation profitability reviews and compare expected versus realized financial outcomes.
- Analyze cost structures and identify direct and indirect cost drivers affecting profitability.
- Work with Procurement to evaluate supplier pricing, purchasing costs, contract terms, and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Partner with Operations to understand productivity, capacity, utilization, fulfillment, service-delivery, and process costs.
- Collaborate with Product teams to evaluate product economics, lifecycle performance, portfolio profitability, and investment priorities.
- Work with FP&A and Accounting to ensure profitability analysis reconciles with approved financial reporting and management accounts.
- Review cost-allocation methodologies and ensure appropriate attribution of direct and indirect costs.
- Identify limitations or distortions in current allocation methodologies and recommend improvements.
- Validate profitability calculations and investigate discrepancies between operational, commercial, and financial data.
- Develop profitability dashboards and management reports highlighting performance, drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide senior management with clear explanations of profitability trends and emerging risks.
- Establish profitability KPIs and performance thresholds aligned with organizational objectives.
- Monitor profitability performance and identify areas requiring corrective action.
- Develop profit-improvement plans with Finance, Commercial, Product, Procurement, and Operations stakeholders.
- Quantify the expected and realized financial benefits of profitability-improvement initiatives.
- Track improvement initiatives from identification through implementation and benefits realization.
- Identify opportunities for pricing optimization, cost reduction, product-mix improvement, customer segmentation, process improvement, and resource optimization.
- Support annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, and long-term planning with profitability assumptions and targets.
- Develop profitability forecasts based on revenue expectations, pricing, volume, mix, costs, and operational assumptions.
- Monitor forecast profitability and recommend revisions based on changing business conditions.
- Provide early-warning indicators for deteriorating profitability and emerging commercial risks.
- Benchmark profitability performance against historical results, internal targets, market expectations, and relevant business benchmarks.
- Support strategic planning by evaluating the profitability implications of expansion, restructuring, market entry, product launches, and operating-model changes.
- Assess the financial impact of strategic alternatives and management decisions.
- Maintain profitability models, analytical databases, reporting structures, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure profitability data is accurate, traceable, consistent, and appropriately controlled.
- Identify data-quality issues affecting profitability analysis and coordinate corrective actions.
- Improve profitability reporting through automation, standardization, data integration, and advanced analytics.
- Support ERP, BI, financial-planning, commercial-analytics, and profitability-management system enhancements.
- Develop documentation covering profitability methodologies, assumptions, controls, and reporting processes.
- Provide training and guidance to finance and commercial stakeholders on profitability concepts and analytical methodologies.
- Mentor junior analysts and finance professionals involved in profitability and business-performance analysis.

Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate should have strong experience in profitability analysis, commercial finance, FP&A, management accounting, financial analysis, business performance, pricing, revenue management, or strategic finance, preferably within a complex, multinational, commercial, product-based, service-oriented, technology, retail, industrial, or project-based organization.
