Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead cabling projects within electrical substations, covering high voltage (HV), medium voltage (MV), and low voltage (LV) power cables as well as control, protection, and communication cabling. The role is responsible for delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality and client specifications, from planning and mobilization through testing, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution
- Plan, schedule, and manage cabling projects in new and existing substations
- Develop project execution plans, work breakdown structures, and detailed programs
- Coordinate cable installation activities, including laying, trenching, tray and ladder work, pulling, termination, jointing, glanding, and labeling
- Oversee cable schedules, routing, and drum scheduling, and manage as-built documentation
- Monitor progress against schedule and take corrective action to prevent delays
Technical and Quality Management
- Review and ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and relevant standards (IEC, IEEE, utility/client standards)
- Coordinate with design, civil, mechanical, and electrical teams on interfaces and clashes
- Ensure proper testing and commissioning, including insulation resistance, continuity, high-voltage withstand, and cable sheath tests
- Implement quality assurance and control procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and punch list closure
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Enforce strict HSE compliance in live and energized substation environments
- Ensure method statements, risk assessments, permits to work, and isolation procedures are in place and followed
- Lead toolbox talks, incident investigations, and corrective actions
Stakeholder and Team Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, consultants, and utility authorities
- Lead and motivate site engineers, supervisors, foremen, technicians, and subcontractor crews
- Conduct regular progress meetings and submit weekly and monthly reports
- Manage risks, resolve conflicts, and escalate issues promptly
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- [8-12] years of experience in power or electrical projects, with at least [5] years managing substation cabling or similar projects
- Proven experience with HV/MV cable installation, termination, and testing
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent HSE certification preferred
