Role Purpose:The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all cost aspects of MEP services within construction and fit-out projects. This role involves cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and cost control for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the project lifecycle.
What This Job InvolvesCost Management & Planning
- * Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for MEP systems including HVAC, electrical installations, fire protection, plumbing, and drainage systems
- Conduct feasibility studies and life cycle costing for MEP installations
- Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize MEP system costs without compromising performance
- Develop and maintain cost databases for MEP materials, equipment, and installation rates
Pre-Contract Services
- * Review MEP design drawings and specifications to identify cost implications
- Prepare bills of quantities and tender documentation for MEP packages
- Analyze and evaluate MEP subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Conduct tender analysis and provide procurement recommendations
- Negotiate contracts with MEP contractors and suppliers
Post-Contract Services
- * Administer MEP contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions
- Monitor and control MEP costs throughout construction phases
- Assess and value MEP variations and change orders
- Process interim payment applications and final accounts for MEP contractors
- Conduct site measurements and verification of completed MEP works
Project Coordination
- * Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors, and MEP specialists
- Attend site meetings and provide cost-related updates on MEP installations
- Review MEP shop drawings and submittals from a cost perspective
- Identify and manage commercial risks related to MEP works
- Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for MEP elements
Desired Skills And Experience For This
- * Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor with specific focus on MEP systems
- Proven experience in managing costs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations
- Experience across various project types (commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, hospitality)
- Familiarity with standard forms of contract (FIDIC, JCT, NEC, local variants)
- MRICS would be advantageous but not essential.
- Experience pre and post contract in project / programme delivery teams.
