Job Summary
The RIS Data Migration Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing data migration activities between Radiology Information Systems (RIS) while ensuring data integrity, accuracy, security, and compliance with healthcare regulations. This role partners closely with customers, clinical teams, IT stakeholders, and third-party vendors to facilitate seamless migrations from legacy platforms to modern RIS environments and support successful go-live implementations.
The Key Responsibilities are:
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for RIS data migration.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze migration requirements.
- Extract clinical, operational, and administrative data from legacy RIS systems.
- Assess and map legacy data structures, including patient demographic records, diagnostic radiology reports, scanned documents, and future appointments.
- Assist in assembling and loading RIS system master lists including referring physicians, insurance providers, procedure codes, billing codes, organizational structures such as practices, sites, and rooms, and other master look-up tables.
- Use ETL tools to clean, transform, and prepare data for migration.
- Perform comprehensive validation to ensure data completeness and resolve inconsistencies.
- Conduct post-migration verification and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve migration-related issues, including data inconsistencies and system compatibility challenges.
- Provide post-migration support for product go-live implementations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including customers, IT staff, compliance officers, and third-party vendors.
- Document the entire migration process, including methodologies, tools, and reports.
- Train staff on how to manage, access, and use data in the new RIS system.
- Support ancillary migration activities and data processing tasks across multiple platforms and environments.
- Maintain the highest standards of patient data privacy, confidentiality, and security throughout all migration activities.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Experience
- 3+ years of proven experience in data migration within a healthcare environment.
- Hands-on experience with data manipulation and/or migration within RIS, PACS, HIS, and EMR systems.
- Experience supporting product go-live implementations and post-migration activities.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in ETL processes, database structures, SQL, and healthcare data standards.
- Proficient SQL Server skills with experience in Transact-SQL (T-SQL), triggers, functions, stored procedures, database schema design, SQL Agent jobs, and ad hoc querying.
- Experience working with and transforming data across CSV files, delimited text files, Excel spreadsheets, SQL databases, Word documents, image files (BMP/JPG), and PDF files.
- Ability to perform ad hoc data manipulation activities, including file conversion, renaming, movement, parsing, and data cleansing.
- Proficiency in C# for Windows desktop programming, Python, or similar programming languages used to enhance internal migration tools.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and scripting technologies such as Python, Perl, Vim, and Bash.
- Experience with Mirth and HL7 integrations.
- Strong understanding of healthcare data structures, migration methodologies, and data validation processes.
