Job Summary
The purpose of this role is to provide senior clinical practices within a specific specialty, along with oversight responsibility for their team of junior doctors and manages other team members. The Consultant should be able to take a comprehensive view of the care pathway. The Consultant accepts ultimate responsibility for the care of all patients admitted under their name.
The Consultant is capable of independently providing high-quality patient care (diagnose, treat, manage and admit patients under their name) as delineated by their clinical privileges. The Consultant actively contributes to the teaching and training of students and junior doctors, and to the development of his specialty through leadership, academe and research. Research is a key and integral component to the Corporation’s Strategic aim to become an Academic Health System. The post holder must be able to contribute on delivering an integrated strategic vision and planning for Clinical, Research, Education and training which improves the quality of patient care.
Key Accountabilities
- Completes and maintains their set of clinical privileges. Performs all relevant patient-care clinical interventions related to their field of specialization to the extent of their approved clinical privilege
- Adhere to all Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) policies, guidelines, plans and strategic programs.
- Assumes direct responsibility for the patients under their medical attendance in the assigned unit.
- Conduct daily inpatient rounds, undertake comprehensive treatment and management of inpatients, and provide screening, examination, and follow-up care for outpatients.
- Undertakes supervisory responsibility for the medical staff within the unit and prepares regular reports on the activities of the unit for the department head / chairman.
- Provide guidance, counsel, and consultation to other departments when requested, and actively participate in departmental and hospital committees for the upgrading of services and work organization.
- Carry out practical training, academic responsibilities, and scientific research as directed by the Department Chairperson/ Section Head; participate in the planning and follow-up of medical education, research activities, and health education programs
- Participates in scheduling of on-call duties and provides on-call services.
- Participates in the assessment and updating of drug, medical supply and equipment needs.
- Writes, completes and approves medical records and reports for patients.
- Provides guidance and counsel to other departments when requested.

- Complies with Revalidation guidelines and standards
- Ensure members of the Investigation Team are properly trained.
- Compiles with the policies systems and processes in place that governs research.
- Ensure patients are aware of their rights and responsibilities and access to research.
- Performs other duties as assigned/directed by the Department chairperson / Section head and approved by the Medical Director/ Chief Medical Officer
Experience and Qualifications
- Western Qualification (UK, USA, Canada, Australia, or equivalent)
- Minimum of One year of post-qualification clinical experience
- Valid medical license/registration from the home country and/or eligibility for licensing in Qatar
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
- Commitment to high standards of patient care, patient safety, and clinical excellence
