Company Description Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) is the national authority responsible for providing society with knowledge and information across all areas of earth sciences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The organization conducts geological surveys, mineral exploration, and prepares and implements geological maps and studies to support sustainable development and mining investment opportunities. SGS also carries out hydrogeological studies, monitors and analyzes earthquakes, volcanoes, and other geological hazards, and supports environmental and engineering geology projects. It delivers specialized information services, supplying government and private sector entities with technical reports, maps, and data on mineral resources and geological structures throughout the country. SGS operates in alignment with global geological survey standards and practices.
Role Description The Chief Geologist is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Jiddah, responsible for overseeing and guiding geological programs and projects across the organization. The role includes planning and supervising field investigations, geological mapping campaigns, and data collection activities, ensuring that methodologies and safety standards are consistently applied. The Chief Geologist leads the evaluation of drilling, logging, geophysical, and hydrogeological data, and ensures that findings are integrated into accurate geological models, maps, and reports. Daily responsibilities involve managing multidisciplinary project teams, reviewing technical outputs, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partners, and supporting national initiatives related to mineral exploration, geological hazard assessment, and resource development. The role also includes mentoring geological staff, contributing to strategic planning, and supporting decision-making by providing expert technical advice to SGS leadership and relevant government entities.
Qualifications
- * Strong field-based geology skills, including Field Work and Geological Mapping, with proven experience leading complex field campaigns.
- Competence in data acquisition and subsurface characterization, including Logging and Drilling operations, and interpreting related records.
- Applied geophysical expertise, including practical experience with Geophysics methods and integration of geophysical data into geological models.
- Advanced knowledge of structural geology, sedimentology, mineral exploration, and hydrogeology, particularly in arid and tectonically active regions.
- Proficiency in geological software and GIS tools for mapping, modeling, and data management.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary technical teams and large-scale projects.
- Excellent technical reporting, documentation, and communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a closely related field; extensive relevant professional experience in geological surveys or mineral exploration.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and ethical standards in field and office environments, with experience working in accordance with national and international guidelines.
