Position Objective:
Provide independent technical review of electrical design deliverables for data centre facilities on behalf of the PMO. Ensure designs are technically sound, compliant, coordinated, and buildable, and meet the project brief, Employer’s Requirements, and applicable standards from concept design through Issued for Construction (IFC), shop drawings, and construction support.
Job Description & Responsibilities:
- Review electrical design submissions at concept, schematic, detailed design, IFC, and shop drawing stages, issuing structured and actionable comments within agreed review turnaround times.
- Assess single-line diagrams, HV/LV distribution layouts, switchgear specifications, UPS and generator sizing calculations, cable schedules, earthing designs, and protection coordination studies for technical accuracy and completeness.
- Verify compliance with the project brief, Employer’s Requirements, applicable electrical standards, and local authority requirements, documenting and escalating any deviations.
- Review designs against the specified TIA-942 rating or Uptime Institute Tier requirements, as applicable, including resilience configurations such as N+1 and 2N.
- Assess electrical system efficiency and design assumptions against the project’s power usage effectiveness (PUE) targets.
- Produce clear, specific, and technically substantiated review comments, referencing relevant drawings, calculations, standards, or contractual requirements.
- Identify and escalate critical electrical design errors before construction, tracking their resolution with the objective of preventing critical design issues from reaching site.
- Review coordination between electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, architectural, and ICT/ELV packages to identify spatial conflicts, interface gaps, and missing design information.
- Review BIM models and coordination reports to verify the required Level of Development (LOD) and confirm that relevant electrical clashes are resolved before IFC issue.
- Maintain a live register of design review comments, outstanding technical issues, responsible parties, and closure dates.
- Assess consultant and contractor responses and resubmissions, verifying adequate resolution and closing review comments within agreed timeframes.
- Represent the PMO in design review meetings, multidisciplinary workshops, and BIM coordination sessions, documenting decisions and following up on assigned actions.
- Review electrical material submittals, method statements, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures, and commissioning plans for alignment with approved designs and project requirements.
- Identify deviations from approved IFC designs during construction support, raise non-conformance records where required, and monitor corrective actions through closure.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8–12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in data centres or mission-critical facilities, with a demonstrated track record in consultancy-side design and technical review.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV/LV power distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, diesel generators, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, and Building Management System (BMS) interfaces.
- Sound understanding of data centre rating and Tier requirements, resilience design principles, redundancy configurations, and PUE benchmarking.
- Experience reviewing electrical drawings, models, and calculations produced using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, DIALux, or equivalent tools.
- Ability to interrogate calculation reports, verify design assumptions, and identify technical deficiencies.
- Working knowledge of BIM coordination using Revit and Navisworks, including federated model reviews, clash detection, and LOD compliance.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable standards, including IEC 60364, BS 7671, NFPA 70/75, TIA-942, and relevant local authority requirements.
- Strong written communication and coordination skills, with the ability to prepare clear review schedules, technical correspondence, and action registers.
