Position SummaryThe Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Lebanese American University (LAU) invites applications for three full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the fields of Immunology/Biotechnology, Computational Biology, and Ecology/Environmental Biology.
We seek highly motivated and innovative scholars who will contribute to the department’s vibrant and interdisciplinary research and teaching community. Candidates in Immunology/Biotechnology should demonstrate expertise in experimental or applied areas relevant to human health and disease; those in Computational Biology should have a strong background in bioinformatics, systems biology, or data-driven approaches to molecular and cellular processes; and those in Ecology/Environmental Biology should bring expertise in biodiversity, environmental systems, conservation, or ecological modeling.
We particularly encourage applicants whose research complements the department’s strengths in genomics, systems biology, neuroscience, or cancer biology. Successful candidates will have opportunities to collaborate with experimental biologists and clinical researchers across LAU, contributing to a growing interdisciplinary research environment.
In addition to establishing an active and externally funded research program, successful candidates will play a key role in developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within their areas of expertise, mentoring students, advising capstone projects and master’s theses, and engaging in service at the departmental and university levels.
Beyond excellence in research and teaching, the appointed faculty members are expected to contribute to program development and assessment, academic advising, and institutional or community service initiatives. Responsibilities
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:* A Ph.D. in Immunology, Ecology, Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or a closely related field. * At least two years of postdoctoral research experience. * A strong record of research accomplishments, including publications in peer-reviewed, high-impact journals, and demonstrated potential for securing external research funding. * For computational and quantitative fields: + expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable — genomics and transcriptomics, systems biology, machine learning and AI applications in biology, network biology, or computational modeling and simulations. + Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB, and experience analyzing large biological datasets.
The DepartmentThe Department of Biological Sciences is one of the eight departments of the School of Arts and Sciences at LAU. It offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Biological Sciences with additional programs upcoming in the near future.
