Role Description
The Marine Engineer is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support of marine machinery, equipment, and vessel systems. The role ensures that all marine engineering operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant marine industry standards, technical specifications, and applicable safety regulations.
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, shipyard personnel, vessel crews, suppliers, and subcontractors to support vessel maintenance, repair, upgrading, and marine engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- * Perform inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine machinery, equipment, and vessel systems.
- Monitor the condition and performance of marine engines, pumps, compressors, hydraulic systems, piping systems, and auxiliary machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive maintenance solutions.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures.
- Coordinate marine engineering activities, including equipment installation, servicing, overhaul, testing, and commissioning.
- Assist in vessel maintenance, repair, refurbishment, retrofitting, and newbuilding projects, where applicable.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant marine standards, classification society requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, inspection records, maintenance logs, and other engineering documentation.
- Coordinate with shipyard personnel, vessel crews, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor project progress, equipment availability, spare parts, tools, and material requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and maintenance practices.
- Support technical inspections, sea trials, equipment testing, and commissioning activities when required.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures and environmental requirements during maintenance and repair activities.
- Perform other marine engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- * Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience in marine engineering, shipyard operations, vessel maintenance, or offshore projects is an advantage.
- Knowledge of marine machinery, propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, piping systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and engineering safety practices.
- Understanding of relevant marine standards, classification society requirements, and vessel safety regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of engineering design or maintenance software is an advantage.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication, coordination, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel to shipyards, ports, vessels, or offshore project sites when required.
- Responsible, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
