The Finance Corporate Affairs Department is looking for an Associate Comptroller, Investments & Portfolio Reporting.This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Finance, Corporate Affairs.
This is a central role that is primarily based on the Beirut campus with occasional commuting to the Byblos campus.
Role Summary
The Associate Comptroller, Investments & Portfolio Reporting is mainly responsible for supporting the Assistant Vice President for Finance, Corporate Affairs in overseeing the University’s investment accounting, investment-related financial reporting, portfolio analysis, investment operations, and related compliance requirements. S/he maintains the integrity of investment financial information, coordinates approved investment transactions; monitors portfolio performance, liquidity, exposures, and adherence to approved investment parameters, and ensures proper reconciliation with the University’s accounting records and external reports.
The Associate Comptroller provides defined analytical and portfolio-oversight support to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) as needed.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviews investment agreements and documentation and ensures relevant financial, accounting, contractual, and U.S. tax compliance requirements are appropriately addressed
- Coordinates and executes approved investment transactions, including capital calls, subscriptions, redemptions, distributions, fund transfers, and other investment cash movements, with appropriate authorization and documentation
- Maintains accurate investment records and ensures investment transactions and balances are properly recorded, classified, supported, and reconciled in the University’s financial systems
- Prepares periodic investment performance, financial reporting, liquidity, exposure, and portfolio analyses, including returns, benchmarks, cash requirements, unfunded commitments, and other relevant portfolio indicators
- Monitors the portfolio against the approved Investment Policy, strategic asset allocation, liquidity parameters, and other investment guidelines, and escalates material deviations to the AVP for Finance and the CIO
- Supports the CIO in investment manager monitoring, due diligence, asset-allocation analysis, rebalancing analysis, and evaluation of potential managers, funds, or investment strategies, within approved governance and delegated authority
- Prepares portfolio dashboards, briefing materials, presentations, schedules, disclosures, and supporting analyses for senior management, the CIO, the Investment Committee, auditors, and other authorized stakeholders
- Maintains effective financial controls over investment accounting and operations and coordinates with auditors, tax advisors, custodians, investment managers, and internal stakeholders on related reporting, compliance, and operational matters
- Coordinates administration of the University’s investment pool, including unit values, utilization, allocations, return allocation, and appropriate accounting documentation
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certification such as CPA, CFA, CIA, CMA, or equivalent is an asset
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, investment accounting, financial reporting, treasury, investment operations, or institutional portfolio oversight
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial reporting, with a good understanding of institutional investments, asset classes, portfolio performance, liquidity, risk, and investment transactions
- Experience with institutional investment portfolios, investment managers, custodians, banks, consultants, private-market funds, and related financial reporting; supervisory experience is preferred
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, reporting, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret investment documentation and prepare clear executive-level analyses and dashboards
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Especially Excel) and ERP/financial systems
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Sound analytical thinking & critical judgment
- Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic
Work Schedule
This role follows a standard Monday–Friday work schedule. However, due to the nature of the responsibilities, flexibility is required. The position may occasionally require availability after regular working hours, on weekends, or on holidays to support operational needs, ensure business continuity, and meet critical deadlines. This role requires collaboration across multiple time zones.
