Position OverviewThe Security Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security operations to protect employees, customers, visitors, facilities, assets, information, and business operations. The role oversees security policies, procedures, risk controls, personnel, security systems, incident management, emergency response, and loss-prevention activities.
The position works closely with senior management, Operations, Facilities, Human Resources, IT, Legal, external security providers, emergency services, and relevant authorities to identify security risks and maintain a safe and secure environment. The Security Manager is also responsible for managing security teams, monitoring operational performance, conducting risk assessments, maintaining compliance, and continuously improving organizational security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- * Develop, implement, and regularly review security strategies, policies, procedures, standards, and operating guidelines.
- Conduct security risk assessments covering facilities, personnel, assets, operations, events, access points, and potential security threats.
- Identify vulnerabilities and implement appropriate preventive, protective, and corrective security measures.
- Manage daily security operations across offices, commercial properties, retail locations, warehouses, hotels, facilities, events, or other assigned sites.
- Lead and supervise security officers, supervisors, control-room personnel, contractors, and other security staff.
- Develop security manpower plans, duty rosters, shift schedules, deployment plans, and site coverage requirements.
- Monitor security personnel performance, attendance, conduct, appearance, and compliance with operational procedures.
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and evaluate security personnel where required.
- Establish clear security post orders, patrol procedures, access-control requirements, emergency protocols, and incident-reporting standards.
- Manage physical security measures including access control, visitor management, perimeter protection, security patrols, key management, and restricted-area controls.
- Oversee CCTV, alarms, access-control systems, security communications, monitoring systems, and other security technologies.
- Coordinate with IT and Facilities teams regarding security-system maintenance, upgrades, testing, and technical issues.
- Monitor security control rooms and ensure incidents, alarms, suspicious activities, and system alerts are appropriately investigated and escalated.
- Establish and maintain procedures for visitor registration, employee access, contractor access, deliveries, vehicle entry, and restricted areas.
- Manage security arrangements for VIPs, executives, high-value assets, sensitive areas, special events, and high-risk activities.
- Develop and maintain emergency response, evacuation, crisis-management, and business-continuity procedures in coordination with relevant departments.
- Lead or coordinate the response to security incidents, theft, unauthorized access, workplace violence, suspicious activity, emergencies, and other security-related events.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into security incidents and preserve relevant evidence, records, CCTV footage, statements, and documentation.
- Prepare detailed incident reports, investigation reports, security summaries, and recommendations for management.
- Coordinate with police, fire services, medical emergency services, government authorities, and other external agencies when required.
- Establish loss-prevention measures to reduce theft, fraud, property damage, unauthorized activity, and other operational risks.
- Conduct regular security inspections, patrol reviews, compliance checks, and vulnerability assessments.
- Monitor security-related risks associated with employees, contractors, visitors, suppliers, customers, events, and business activities.
- Coordinate security requirements for events, exhibitions, product launches, VIP visits, executive meetings, and other high-profile activities.
- Manage relationships with outsourced security companies, guarding contractors, security-system providers, consultants, and other external service providers.
- Review security-service contracts, service levels, manpower requirements, performance standards, and vendor compliance.
- Monitor security budgets, equipment requirements, manpower costs, contracts, procurement, and operational expenses.
- Assist with the selection, evaluation, procurement, and implementation of security equipment and technology.
- Maintain accurate security records, access logs, incident reports, inspection records, training documentation, risk assessments, and emergency plans.
- Conduct security awareness training and briefings for employees regarding access control, emergency procedures, suspicious activity, workplace safety, and incident reporting.
- Ensure security operations comply with company policies, contractual requirements, applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify gaps and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Review security incidents and operational performance to identify trends, recurring risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and monitor security KPIs covering incidents, response times, patrol compliance, access-control performance, vendor performance, and other relevant indicators.
- Provide regular security reports, risk updates, incident summaries, performance analysis, and recommendations to senior management.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive security information, investigations, employee information, access credentials, and incident records.
- Continuously improve security processes, technologies, training programs, emergency preparedness, and risk-control measures.
Requirements
- * Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Emergency Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in security management, corporate security, physical security, loss prevention, risk management, or a related environment.
- Previous experience managing security teams, supervisors, security contractors, or multi-site security operations.
- Strong knowledge of physical security, access control, CCTV, alarm systems, patrol operations, visitor management, and loss prevention.
- Strong understanding of security risk assessments, threat identification, vulnerability management, incident response, and emergency preparedness.
- Experience developing security policies, SOPs, post orders, emergency plans, and incident-management procedures.
- Strong leadership, personnel management, delegation, coaching, and performance-management skills.
- Experience managing outsourced security providers, security contractors, vendors, and service-level agreements.
- Strong incident investigation, reporting, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of emergency response, crisis management, evacuation procedures, and business-continuity principles.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with senior management, employees, contractors, visitors, government authorities, and emergency services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and security-management, CCTV, access-control, incident-reporting, or related systems.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, discretion, judgment, and confidentiality.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions during emergencies, incidents, and high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of applicable security, health and safety, fire-safety, privacy, and regulatory requirements is an advantage.
- Professional certifications in security, risk management, emergency management, or related disciplines are an advantage.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, public holidays, on-call duties, and outside normal working hours when required.
