The Finance Corporate Affairs Department / Accounting & Financial Reporting Office is looking for a Finance Compliance Specialist reporting to the Comptroller, Accounting & Financial Reporting.
This is a central role that is primarily based on the Beirut campus with occasional commuting to the Byblos campus.
Role Summary
The Finance Compliance Specialist is mainly responsible for supporting the University’s accounting operations by coordinating U.S. tax compliance activities and providing oversight of the 403(b) Retirement Plan. S/he collaborates with the Associate Comptroller – Taxation and Affiliates on tax compliance matters, including the preparation of reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation. S/he ensures the effective administration, monitoring, compliance, and governance of the University’s 403(b) Retirement Plan through coordination with internal stakeholders, service providers, and external advisors.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares and reviews tax-related reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information
- Maintains tax compliance records, documentation, and internal controls, while monitoring regulatory developments and assessing their impact on university operations
- Supports the Associate Comptroller – Taxation and Affiliates in coordinating and executing the University’s U.S. tax compliance activities and reporting requirements
- Coordinates with internal departments, external tax advisors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders on tax-related matters, inquiries, and compliance requirements
- Assists in the resolution of tax-related issues and supports special projects and process improvement initiatives related to tax compliance
- Handles the financial administration of the University’s 403(b) Retirement Plan, including the review of transactions, reconciliations, plan activities, and supporting documentation
- Monitors plan compliance and internal controls while coordinating with Human Resources, Payroll, third-party administrators, auditors, and other stakeholders
- Supports the annual audit of the 403(b) Retirement Plan by preparing supporting schedules, coordinating audit requests, and assisting with the resolution of audit inquiries
- Identifies opportunities to improve processes, controls, and governance related to the administration of the 403(b) Retirement Plan
- Provides backup support to the office staff when needed to ensure continuity of operations
- Performs other duties pertinent to this job as assigned by the direct supervisor
Minimum Required Qualifications
- * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent professional certification is required
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, or financial operations
- Knowledge of U.S. tax compliance processes, including the preparation of reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Experience coordinating with internal departments, external tax advisors, auditors, or other service providers on compliance-related matters
- Experience with employee benefit plans, preferably 403(b) retirement plans, including plan administration, financial reconciliations, compliance monitoring, or coordination with third-party administrators
- Strong understanding of internal controls, regulatory compliance, and processing documentation
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Human Resources, Payroll, external advisors, and other stakeholders
Work Schedule
This role follows a standard Monday–Friday work schedule. The position may occasionally require availability after regular working hours, on weekends, or on holidays to support operational needs, ensure business continuity, and meet critical deadlines.
