Retail Merchandiser
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Experience: 3-5 years
About the Company
This confidential opportunity is with a Dubai-headquartered company operating across retail, fashion, and distribution in emerging markets. The organization is known for building a carefully curated portfolio of products and partner brands, supported by strong sourcing, supply chain, and experiential retail capabilities. Its operating model combines local market knowledge with global reach, helping brands achieve sustainable growth while creating differentiated customer experiences. The company focuses on customer-centric execution, commercial discipline, and long-term partner value rather than short-term transactions. Teams work across merchandising, retail, sourcing, logistics, marketing, and commercial functions to convert market insight into stronger assortments, better availability, and profitable growth. The culture values ownership, collaboration, curiosity, and practical problem-solving. Employees are expected to take responsibility for outcomes, communicate clearly across functions, and use data alongside customer and market understanding when making decisions. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing retail platform while working closely with teams that shape product, inventory, and customer experience decisions.
About the Role
The Retail Merchandiser will own the commercial performance of assigned product categories across the retail business. Through assortment planning, demand analysis, stock management, and trading reviews, this role will ensure the right products are available in the right channels at the right time. The merchandiser will translate customer, market, and sales signals into actionable plans that improve sell-through, availability, margin, and inventory productivity. Working closely with buying, sourcing, supply chain, retail operations, and marketing, the role will balance customer appeal with commercial discipline. Success means stronger category performance, fewer inventory risks, clearer trading decisions, and a more consistent customer experience across stores and relevant retail channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Own category and assortment plans through structured range reviews, ensuring product breadth, depth, pricing, and timing reflect customer demand and commercial targets.
- Analyse sales, sell-through, stock cover, margin, markdown, and forecast data to identify risks early and drive profitable trading decisions.
- Manage replenishment and allocation recommendations through inventory and merchandising systems, improving availability while controlling overstocks, aged stock, and working capital exposure.
- Partner with buying, sourcing, supply chain, retail operations, and marketing teams to coordinate launches, promotions, seasonal changes, and product-flow priorities.
- Conduct regular trading reviews and convert performance insights into clear actions, ownership, timelines, and measurable category improvements.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends, customer behaviour, and store feedback to refine assortments and strengthen the relevance of the retail offer.
- Support open-to-buy, budget, and forecast processes by maintaining accurate plans and escalating material risks with practical commercial recommendations.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- 3–5 years of merchandising experience within the retail industry, with practical ownership of assortment planning, stock management, trading analysis, and category performance.
- Strong command of retail metrics including sell-through, stock cover, margin, markdown, weeks of supply, availability, forecast accuracy, and inventory productivity.
- Advanced Excel capability and confidence working with merchandising, enterprise resource planning, inventory, or business intelligence systems to produce reliable decisions.
- Commercial understanding of retail buying cycles, seasonal planning, replenishment, allocations, promotions, and product lifecycle management across stores or omnichannel channels.
- Clear communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and turn analysis into timely execution.
- Structured problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving retail environment.
Additional Plus
- Experience working with fashion, lifestyle, or multi-brand retail assortments where product relevance, timing, and presentation materially influence customer conversion.
- Exposure to emerging-market retail conditions, international partner brands, or distribution-led operating models would support faster commercial context building.
- Familiarity with dashboarding, automated reporting, or business intelligence tools that improve trading visibility and reduce manual decision-making.
What You'll Bring
- A retail merchandising track record showing ownership of commercial outcomes rather than only administrative coordination.
- The analytical discipline to connect customer demand, sales performance, inventory position, margin, and availability into clear actions.
- The collaboration skills to work effectively with buying, sourcing, supply chain, retail operations, marketing, and external brand partners.
- A customer-centred and commercially practical mindset, with the confidence to challenge assumptions, escalate risks, and follow decisions through to measurable results.
