Product Development Supervisor – Color Cosmetics
Turn ideas into shades, formulas, and products people love.
Do you know what makes a foundation feel just right? What turns a good lipstick into a must-have? Can you spot the difference between on-trend shade and the shade that will define the next season?
At Boutiqaat, we’re looking for a Product Development Supervisor – Color Cosmetics to lead the journey from “What if?” to “It’s ready for launch.” This is a hands-on product development role for someone who lives and breathes beauty, makeup, innovation, formulation, color, and consumer trends and knows how to turn market opportunities into commercially successful products. You’ll own and coordinate the full product development journey, from the first concept and product brief through formulation, shade development, sampling, testing, approvals, scale-up, production, and launch.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead market, consumer, competitor, and product research to uncover new opportunities, market gaps, emerging trends, and product concepts.
- Translate consumer insights and commercial objectives into compelling product concepts and development briefs.
- Keep your finger on the pulse of makeup, beauty, formulation, packaging, and consumer trends.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products and create the next generation of color cosmetics.
- Lead development across foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, highlighter, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lip products, and other color cosmetics.
- Evaluate formulas, shades, textures, finishes, pigmentation, coverage, payoff, undertones, and overall product performance.
- Lead shade development and color matching to achieve the right result — not just on paper, but on the skin.
- Review samples, benchmark competitors, test products, and challenge formulas until they meet the required standard.
- Coordinate stability, compatibility, microbiological, safety, and performance testing were required.
- Evaluate formula and packaging compatibility to ensure the final product performs as beautifully as it looks.
- Troubleshoot development issues and work with partners to find practical, effective solutions.
- Identify and evaluate suitable development and manufacturing partners.
- Lead discussions around formulations, raw materials, shades, packaging, samples, testing, quality, cost, specifications, and timelines.
- Manage revisions and follow up on development milestones.
- Monitor supplier and manufacturer performance and address issues before they become bigger problems.
- Build strong, productive relationships with external partners.
- Participate in factory, laboratory, supplier, exhibition, expo, and trade visits to assess capabilities and discover new opportunities.
- Manage multiple product development projects, priorities, milestones, dependencies, approvals, and deadlines.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, Packaging, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure product specifications, ingredient information, claims, packaging requirements, testing results, regulatory documentation, and development records are complete and accurate.
- Identify risks, delays, resource requirements, and dependencies early — and take action.
- Make sure every product is properly developed, tested, approved, documented, scaled up, and launch-ready.
- Identify opportunities to improve product development, evaluation methods, quality, efficiency, and speed to market.
- Develop better ways of working, tracking, documenting, benchmarking, and evaluating products.
- Provide technical guidance and feedback to team members.
- Keep management informed on product performance, development progress, supplier status, risks, and key milestones.
- Support continuous improvement and strategic innovation initiatives.
What You Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Development, Business Administration, Marketing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in color cosmetics product development, formulation, R&D, or a related beauty/cosmetics role.
- Hands-on experience developing products across multiple color cosmetics categories.
- Proven experience taking products from concept → formulation → sampling → testing → approval → scale-up → launch.
- Strong experience working with cosmetic manufacturers, laboratories, raw material suppliers, and packaging suppliers.
- Experience in shade development, color matching, texture evaluation, product performance, and competitive benchmarking.
- Experience coordinating stability, compatibility, quality, safety, and performance testing.
- Experience managing multiple projects, suppliers, priorities, and deadlines at the same time.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory, Packaging, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and related teams.
- Previous experience guiding, supervising, or mentoring team members is essential.
- Color cosmetic formulations, pigments, colorants, textures, finishes, and cosmetic raw materials.
- Shade development, undertones, pigmentation, coverage, payoff, texture, and finish.
- Cosmetic stability, compatibility, microbiology, safety, and performance testing.
- Cosmetic regulatory requirements, ingredient documentation, specifications, claims, and compliance.
- Packaging–formula compatibility.
- Product evaluation, competitive benchmarking, and market analysis.
- Project management, product development processes, and commercial requirements.
- Analytical, practical, proactive, and solutions focused.
- Comfortable making decisions on formulas, shades, textures, finishes, samples, and product performance.
- A strong communicator and stakeholder manager.
- Comfortable negotiating with manufacturers and suppliers.
- Commercially aware, with a strong understanding of consumer behavior and beauty trends.
- Highly organized and able to meet multiple deadlines without losing sight of quality.
- Passionate about makeup, beauty, innovation, and what’s coming next.
- Comfortable getting hands-on with product testing, sample evaluation, benchmarking, and factory visits.
- Willing to travel when required for suppliers, manufacturers, exhibitions, trade shows, and development activities.
- A confident team guide who can provide direction, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality execution.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office — particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with ERP, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), project tracking, and documentation systems.
- Fluent English is required.
- Arabic is an advantage.
