Job Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced Print Production Graphic Designer who can take a project from an initial idea through final production. You’ll design everything from brochures and trade show displays to billboards, publications, packaging, and other branded materials. Some projects will begin with an established brand or a rough Photoshop mockup. Others will start with a creative brief and a blank page.
Strong design skills are only part of the job. You’ll prepare files for production and work directly with print vendors when needed. Before something goes to press, our client wants you looking closely enough to catch the fold that lands in the wrong place or the typo everyone else missed.
Why This Role Matters
- To the team: Account strategists need to be able to hand you a print project and trust that it will keep moving. You’ll develop the design and work through the production details. When the file reaches the printer, the rest of the team should feel confident that it has been thoroughly checked.
- To the clients: A brochure handed to a prospect or a display standing behind their team at a trade show represents their brand in a physical space. Once thousands of copies are printed, a mistake cannot be corrected with a quick update. Your work helps make sure the finished piece looks as good in someone’s hands as it did on screen.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM CST, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)
Responsibilities
- Design print and brand materials across a wide range of formats, from smaller marketing pieces to large-format displays and multi-page publications.
- Develop original concepts when needed and extend established brands consistently across new applications.
- Prepare accurate, production-ready files with a strong understanding of commercial printing requirements.
- Account for color reproduction and finishing requirements while adapting artwork to the specifications of each project.
- Coordinate directly with printers and other production vendors. Request quotes or submit files as needed, review proofs carefully, and troubleshoot production issues before they affect the finished piece.
- Proofread every project that passes through your hands, even when the copy has already been reviewed by the client. Check the design with the same care, including alignment and image quality as well as the details that can change during production.
- Manage a few substantial projects at once while accommodating smaller requests that come through in between.
- Collaborate with Media Quest’s other designers so projects can move between team members when schedules require it.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional graphic design experience with a portfolio demonstrating strong print design and finished physical pieces.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, along with strong Photoshop skills. You should be comfortable receiving an existing Photoshop mockup and developing it into finished artwork appropriate for production.
- Thorough knowledge of commercial print production, including bleeds, color modes, resolution, spot colors, folds, binding, and large-format production.
- Exceptional attention to detail to catch typos and notice discrepancies in printer proofs.
- Strong creative judgment and the ability to work from both established brand standards and open-ended creative briefs.
- Comfort presenting work or discussing revisions directly with clients is preferred, but not required.
Independent Contractor Perks
- Health Insurance Coverage for eligible locations
- Permanent work from home
- Immediate hiring
