JOB PURPOSE:
The Paralegal / Legal Officer provides essential legal research, drafting, contract review, and administrative support to the Corporate Legal Counsel. The role assists in maintaining the company’s legal documentation and filing systems, drafting routine legal documents and correspondence, reviewing standard contracts for risks and inconsistencies, and supporting day-to-day Legal department operations. The Paralegal / Legal Officer works under the direct supervision of the Corporate Legal Counsel and ensures that legal processes are handled efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Research & Advisory Support
- Conduct legal research to support the Corporate Legal Counsel on contract, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Gather and summarize relevant legislation, regulations, and case precedents applicable to the company’s operations in Kuwait and other GCC markets.
- Assist in preparing preliminary legal opinions, recommendations, and briefing notes for the Corporate Counsel’s review and approval.
- Monitor regulatory updates and flag any changes in applicable laws or compliance requirements to the Corporate Counsel.
Contract Review & Management
- Review standard and routine contracts, identifying inconsistencies, missing clauses, non-standard terms, or potential legal risks.
- summarize contracts clearly, highlighting key commercial and legal points, obligations, liabilities, and issues requiring Corporate Counsel’s attention.
- Maintain a contracts register and ensure all executed agreements are properly filed, tracked, and accessible.
- Support the Corporate Counsel in managing contract lifecycles including renewals, amendments, and expiry notifications.
- Coordinate with internal departments to gather contract-related information and ensure timely review and sign-off processes.
Legal Drafting & Documentation
- Draft routine legal documents and templates including NDAs, standard service agreements, letters of intent, and other standard-form contracts for Corporate Counsel’s review and approval.
- Draft professional correspondence, formal notices, and emails related to legal and contractual matters on behalf of the Legal department.
- Prepare and format legal submissions, board resolutions, powers of attorney, and other corporate documents as directed.
- Ensure all drafted documents are accurate, well-structured, and consistent with the company’s legal standards and tone.
Legal Filing, Records & Administration
- Maintain and organize the Legal department’s filing systems, ensuring contracts, correspondence, case documentation, and legal records are archived accurately and retrievably.
- Manage the tracking and renewal of corporate registrations, licenses, and legal deadlines across all operating entities.
- Coordinate notarization, legalization, attestation, and translation of legal documents as required.
- Support due diligence processes by collating and organizing relevant documents and records.
- Provide general administrative and coordination support to the Legal department as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in law, Legal Studies, a Paralegal certificate, or diploma.
- 0–2 years of experience in a paralegal, legal assistant, or corporate legal support role.
- Prior experience in contract review, legal drafting, or corporate legal support is a strong advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English are essential.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PPT.
- High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail in handling legal documents and sensitive information.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
