Geo-Jade Petroleum – South Basra Integrated Project (SBIPRO) is seeking an experienced ( Expats Candidate ) Workover Engineering Section Head with 15 years solid Oil & Gas experience . This role works with Wells Department on rotation basis based in Basra Iraq.
Workover Engineering Section Head is accountable for the delivery of safe, effective Workover and Completion engineering solutions for the Tuba oil field development plan.
ROLE SYNOPSIS
- The Workover Engineering Section Head reports directly to the Workover Manager.
- The position is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective Workover and Completions engineering solutions for the Tuba oil field development plan.
- The Engineering Section Head will work closely in a multi-cultural environment that requires daily liaison with Workover operations team, Well Services, International Service Providers, Contractors, and support to SBIPRO E&D Team.
- Leading and providing design engineering and operational engineering support for 2 Workover rigs or more, delivering 20+ workovers per year.
Key deliverables
- Allocate resources to the WO Engineering functional team.
- Provide feedback and chance of success of SORs provided by E&D.
- Use engineering and operational experience to provide expertise and leadership to Workover Department at the SOR draft review stage.
- Responsible for ensuring all stages of the Engineering design, select and review process are followed and standardized.
- Provide assurance of the technical integrity of operations and compliance with in-country law, corporate policy, international standards and guidelines.

- Responsible for ensuring all stages of the Engineering design, select and review process are followed and standardized.
- Provide assurance of the technical integrity of operations and compliance with in-country law, corporate policy, international standards and guidelines.
- Act as CAM (Contract Accountable Manager) for key contracts including generating tendering documentation, leading tender review and post-contract contractor performance review.
- Provide 24/7 support for well control, well integrity and complex operations.
- Lead problem-solving sessions with delivery teams, engineering and service providers to resolve challenges and manage change.
- Review and approve complex and high value WO programs.
- Resolve operations challenges, such as:
- Wellbore Corrosion and Barrier Compliance.
- Engineered Efficiencies, combining runs.
- QA/QC and contribution to ensure highest standard provision of Workover/Completion Programs generated by Workover Engineering Team.
- QA/QC of all pre-job technical calculations within Programs.
- Daily engineering and troubleshooting support to Workover Delivery teams.
- Specific expertise in Water Shut-offs/zonal isolation, ESP Installation, Water Injection, Barefoot Completions, Wellbore Cleanout, Cased Hole Fishing, and Well Integrity repair/intervention.
- Training and mentoring of local and junior staff engineers.
- Liaise with Service Providers and Contractors with regards to inventory and equipment needs aligned with short and long term Rig/Well scheduling and planning.
- Provide technical and engineering support to Workover Delivery teams
- Offer recommendations for operational improvements plus implementing optimization and efficiency opportunities
- Self-starter and minimum supervision role
- Participate in Quarterly Contractor Performance Reviews

- Mentor WO Supervisors and WO Engineers on safety, efficiency and risk management
- Demonstrate unyielding focus on well control and barrier philosophy

- Provide leadership guidance and coaching
Policies, Systems, Processes and Procedures
- Implement API standards and petroleum industry standards, and comply with various procedures of SBIPRO
- Up to 5% travel required for contractor meetings in the region if required
Health, Security, Safety and Environment
- Provide Safety Leadership
- Identify high-risk operations and focus resources to mitigate those risks
- Assist Delivery Teams with incident reporting and investigations
- Support HSE Self Verification initiative
Minimum Experience & Job-Specific Skills:
- Extensive (15+ years) Wells experience with E&P Oil and Gas Company or major service provider
- Advanced knowledge of onshore workover and Completions operations including rig equipment, well control, well killing, well integrity repairs, water shut off, completions, ESP installations
- Demonstrable history of being part of or leading a Technical Evaluation Team for Tender evaluation (Technical only)
- Strong understanding of slickline, E-line, Acidizing, hydraulic fracturing and Coiled Tubing activities
- Fluids and Hydraulics Software, Log Interpretation
- Demonstrably strong communication and mentoring skills, proven record of developing junior personnel
- Ability to work in a high volume fast paced environment where daily challenges will disrupt planned activities. Results driven
- Demonstrable history of multiple rig operations.
- Experience of managing third party contractor and Contract management
- International experience, Middle East onshore an advantage
