About This RoleAs a Senior Electrical Engineer within the Electrical Design Department, you will report to the Department Manager / Lead Electrical Engineer and take ownership of electrical and low-voltage system designs across a range of projects, managing them from initiation through to closure. You will ensure designs comply with statutory guidelines while meeting client requirements, deadlines, budgets, and quality standards. This role carries supervisory responsibility for approximately 1-4 direct and 2-6 indirect reports, including technical guidance and training for design engineers, draftsmen, and junior electrical engineers.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Delivery* Understand client design requirements and coordinate with the Lead Electrical Engineer and project architects/engineers to ensure adequate electrical provisions throughout the project lifecycle.
* Develop and review design and layout plans for electrical utilities, telephone, security, and other electrical systems using CAD software.
* Prepare data collection, concept, preliminary, and detailed design packages, including working drawings and contract documents.
* Evaluate and prepare electrical load calculations based on the power consumption of all electro-mechanical systems (lighting, power, equipment, security, elevators, etc.).
* Maintain quality control on all drawings produced under the section, ensuring compliance with company quality and CAD standards.
* Review and prepare calculations and documents for submission and approval from relevant ministries, and obtain authority approvals for electrical, fire alarm, telephone, and fuel storage systems.
* Stay current on advancements in electrical materials, components, and codes of practice (local and international), and monitor changes in local ministerial requirements.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination* Support the Lead Electrical Engineer on proposal inputs (e.g. man-month requirements) and sub-consultant evaluation during RFPs.
* Coordinate with the project team to keep designs on schedule and budget, updating the Lead Electrical Engineer on progress.
* Review the BOQ for electrical design and support the Quantity Survey department with additional contract documents.
* Meet with manufacturers and suppliers to build technical understanding of materials and components.
* Respond to technical queries raised by site electrical engineers and assist with verifying contractor-submitted materials against requirements and specifications.
Compliance & People Management* Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws; support the Lead Electrical Engineer in maintaining section policies and procedures.
* Ensure all project support staff have assigned tasks and understand their project role.
* Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to design engineers, draftsmen, and junior electrical engineers.
Qualifications/Requirements
- * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- Professional accreditation in Design.
- 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in a Electrical Design
- Certification or membership with a recognized Society of Engineers.
- Full proficiency in Revit and/or BIM modeling software is a plus.
- Working knowledge of CAD software and electrical design software; BIM experience required.
- Strong knowledge of international standards and codes, as well as local ministerial regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to select local and foreign materials, equipment, and finished products based on technical evaluations.
