We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and commercially driven Portfolio Director to lead the strategic management and performance of a diversified portfolio of investments, businesses, projects, products, or strategic initiatives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing portfolio strategy, optimizing resource allocation, monitoring performance and risk, identifying growth opportunities, and providing senior leadership with actionable insights to maximize portfolio value and achieve long-term organizational objectives.
The ideal candidate should combine strong strategic thinking with financial and commercial acumen, excellent leadership capabilities, and the ability to make informed decisions across complex and interconnected portfolio priorities.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement portfolio strategies aligned with the organization’s overall business and investment objectives.
• Provide strategic oversight across the portfolio and ensure individual assets, businesses, projects, or initiatives support broader organizational priorities.
• Establish portfolio performance objectives, KPIs, benchmarks, and reporting frameworks.
• Monitor financial, operational, commercial, strategic, and risk performance across the portfolio.
• Analyze portfolio composition and identify opportunities for growth, optimization, diversification, restructuring, or rationalization.
• Evaluate new investment, business, project, product, and strategic opportunities for potential inclusion in the portfolio.
• Conduct portfolio-level analysis covering returns, profitability, capital allocation, risk exposure, market conditions, and long-term value creation.
• Develop recommendations regarding investment priorities, resource allocation, capital deployment, divestment, expansion, or portfolio restructuring.
• Lead portfolio reviews and present performance analysis, strategic recommendations, and risk assessments to senior management and the Board.
• Ensure appropriate balance between short-term performance, long-term growth, strategic priorities, and risk management.
• Identify emerging market trends, industry developments, competitive threats, and opportunities that may affect portfolio performance.
• Establish portfolio governance frameworks, decision-making processes, reporting standards, and performance management systems.
• Oversee major portfolio initiatives and ensure effective coordination across business units, projects, investment teams, and functional departments.
• Manage portfolio-level risks and ensure appropriate mitigation, controls, and contingency strategies are implemented.
• Review business cases, financial models, investment proposals, project plans, and strategic recommendations.
• Work closely with Finance, Strategy, Investment, Risk, Operations, Legal, and other functions to support portfolio decision-making.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with executives, investors, business leaders, partners, financial institutions, advisors, and other key stakeholders.
• Lead negotiations and strategic discussions relating to major portfolio investments, partnerships, transactions, or business initiatives.
• Oversee portfolio reporting, forecasting, valuation analysis, performance reviews, and strategic planning activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, profitability, capital utilization, and overall portfolio value.
• Lead, mentor, and develop portfolio management, investment, strategy, or business development professionals.
• Ensure portfolio activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements, governance standards, internal policies, and risk frameworks.
• Support mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic investments, divestments, restructuring, and other corporate transactions where applicable.
• Continuously review portfolio strategy and recommend adjustments in response to changes in market conditions, organizational priorities, and risk appetite.
✅ Requirements
• Proven experience as a Portfolio Director, Portfolio Manager, Investment Director, Investment Manager, Strategy Director, Asset Manager, or in a similar senior portfolio leadership role.
• Extensive experience managing complex portfolios of investments, businesses, projects, products, or strategic initiatives.
• Strong understanding of portfolio management, investment principles, financial analysis, strategic planning, and business performance.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate opportunities and make commercially sound portfolio decisions.
• Strong financial modeling, valuation, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis capabilities.
• Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong understanding of portfolio risk management, diversification, capital allocation, and value creation.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proven experience working with senior executives, Boards, investors, financial institutions, partners, or other high-level stakeholders.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of market dynamics and competitive environments.
• Experience with M&A, investments, restructuring, divestments, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships is highly desirable.
• Ability to manage multiple assets, initiatives, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, financial modeling, BI tools, portfolio management systems, or other relevant platforms.
• High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and discretion.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Investment Management, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• MBA, CFA, CA/CPA, FRM, or other relevant professional qualification is an advantage.
• Experience in private equity, asset management, investment management, corporate strategy, financial services, real estate, or a complex multinational environment is highly desirable.
