DescriptionAfrica50 is an infrastructure investor and asset manager that contributes to Africa’s growth by developing and investing in bankable projects, catalysing public sector capital and mobilising private sector funding. Africa50 has raised over US$1 billion so far from 34 African countries, the African Development Bank, two African Central Banks and Africa’s largest pension fund. Africa50 has an independent investment process and seeks to generate commercial risk-adjusted returns across key infrastructure sectors.
The DRE Africa Platform develops and manages investment vehicles supporting distributed renewable energy (DRE) businesses across Africa and currently includes two funds: the US$200 million Africa50 DRE Fund managed by Africa50, and the US$300 million Nigeria DRE Fund co-managed by Africa50 and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. The platform mobilises and deploys capital to expand energy access and support business growth, with a focus on mini-grids, commercial and industrial solutions, standalone solar systems, e-mobility, clean cooking and DRE value chains. The funds invest through equity and quasi-equity instruments.
Purpose of the RoleThe Investment Associate will support the origination, assessment, execution and management of
investments across the platform. Reporting to an Investment Director, the Investment Associate will take ownership of financial analysis and defined transaction workstreams and contribute to the formulation of investment recommendations. The small team offers close exposure to senior colleagues, Investee management teams, co-investors and external advisers in an entrepreneurial environment.
Principal ResponsibilitiesInvestment Origination and Screening
- * Support development of and maintain the investment pipeline through market research, monitoring sector developments, and engagement with entrepreneurs, sponsors and financing partners.
- Screen investment opportunities against fund mandates, return objectives and impact priorities, and prepare initial investment assessments.
- Monitor market trends and regulatory developments to inform investment decisions.
Investment Analysis and Execution
- * Build, review and challenge financial models, valuations and returns; assess business plans, unit economics, growth prospects, financing needs and cash generation through scenario analysis.
- Coordinate due diligence with technical, legal, tax and ESG specialists, identifying key risks and tracking issues through resolution.
- Contribute to investment structuring and negotiations, support transaction documentation, and track approvals, conditions precedent and disbursement requirements.
- Prepare investment memoranda and presentations for stakeholders including the fund Investment Committees, platform leadership and Africa50 group leadership.
Portfolio Management
- * Monitor portfolio company financial and operational performance, liquidity, covenant compliance and emerging risks; support engagement on business plans, financing and value creation.
- Update valuations and return forecasts, assess distributions, refinancing and exit opportunities, and prepare materials for portfolio reviews, board and shareholder discussions.
- Work with Monitoring & Evaluation and ESG colleagues to track impact indicators and action plans and contribute to investor and internal reporting.
Fundraising and Platform Development
- * Support fundraising through participation in investor meetings, maintaining fund models and presentations, coordination of investor due diligence and maintenance of data rooms.
Candidate ProfileRequired Background
- * Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience in private equity, infrastructure or energy investing, investment banking, project finance, or transaction advisory.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, business, engineering or another relevant discipline. An advanced degree or relevant professional qualification would be an advantage.
- Strong financial modelling, valuation and financial analysis skills supported by demonstrable transaction execution experience in DRE, infrastructure, growth equity, private credit or related sectors.
- An interest in and understanding of DRE and related investment challenges. Experience in African or other emerging markets, blended finance or structured investments would be an advantage.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and counterparties from diverse backgrounds.
- Fluent English (French or other relevant language is a plus).
LocationThe position is based in Casablanca, Morocco, with flexible working arrangements. Candidates should be willing to travel regularly.
