Job Purpose:
The Sanctions Team Leader, who reports to the head of Sanctions, is responsible for overseeing the operations of the sanctions team, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the effective execution of the sanctions monitoring plan. This role includes mentoring sanctions officers, managing escalations, and collaborating with the Head of Sanctions to enhance the overall sanctions compliance program.
🔹 Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of sanctions officers, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure effective investigation of sanctions hits and compliance with internal policies.
- Oversee the investigation of denied entities and potential matches generated by the sanctions screening solution, ensuring thorough and timely assessments such as trade finance, SWIFT, ACH, Onboarding, etc
- Ensure that material concerns are promptly escalated to the Head of Sanctions, highlighting critical issues and necessary actions.
- Collaborate with the Head of Sanctions in the development and execution of the Sanctions Monitoring Plan, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with business units to provide advice on the applicability of sanctions policies
- Lead and participate in sanctions-related initiatives, investigations, and projects, ensuring effective execution and compliance.
- Maintain and update internal and external watchlists to ensure accuracy and compliance with current sanctions regulations.
- Represent the department in front of external vendors to ensure the functionality and effectiveness of sanctions screening systems.
- Keep the Head of Compliance and the Compliance team updated on all sanctions-related matters and developments.
🔹 Job specification:
- 6+ years of experience in Sanctions
- Excellent written and spoken English language
- Comprehensive knowledge of local regulatory requirements, local banking practices, and laws, including but not limited to AML/CFT laws.
- Sanctions screening system experience is a must
🎓 Education:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting/Commerce/Economics/Finance/Banking or equivalent
