Veterinary Assistant – Veterinary Department
Reports to: Head of Veterinary Department / General Manager
The Assistant Manager supports the Head of Veterinary Department in the management, coordination, supervision, and continuous improvement of veterinary operations across the farm and associated facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise veterinary staff, interns, consultants, and support personnel, including staff scheduling, task allocation, performance monitoring, and training.
- Coordinate clinical, surgical, laboratory, pathology, preventive medicine, and disease surveillance activities across all animal species.
- Support wildlife capture, immobilization, handling, transportation, and translocation, ensuring animal welfare and compliance with veterinary and safety protocols.
- Manage veterinary records, reports, databases, inventories, procurement requirements, equipment, and operational resources.
- Implement and monitor biosecurity, quarantine, infection control, environmental surveillance, and animal health programs.
- Participate in emergency veterinary response and disease outbreak investigations, including containment and control measures.
- Support abattoir operations, ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection, food safety, and hygiene compliance.
- Coordinate with other departments on wildlife management, conservation, research, and operational activities.
- Ensure veterinary facilities, equipment, vehicles, and resources remain safe, functional, and operationally ready.
The position requires leadership, initiative, flexibility, accountability, and availability outside normal working hours, including weekends, emergencies, and field operations.
Fluent English, both oral and written, is essential. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English and produce, understand, and manage professional and technical documentation and reports.
