We’re looking for a Software Engineering Team Lead to lead Zid’s Storefront Engineering team, which builds and maintains customer-facing commerce experiences including checkout, authentication, themes, and other storefront capabilities.
You’ll lead engineers while remaining hands-on in the design and delivery of reliable, secure, and scalable software. You’ll set technical direction, translate product goals into practical engineering plans, and work closely with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions across interconnected storefront journeys.
What You’ll Work On:
In this role, you will:
- Lead the Storefront Engineering team’s day-to-day delivery, clarify priorities, break down work, manage dependencies, and remove blockers
- Own the technical direction and quality of checkout, authentication, themes, and related storefront systems
- Balance new feature development with reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Design and review solutions for complex user journeys, APIs, data flows, and integrations
- Document technical decisions and guide engineers through implementation
- Write and review production code while remaining hands-on with complex technical challenges
- Support difficult debugging and uphold practical standards for testing, code review, security, and observability
- Partner with Product and Design to shape requirements and identify technical constraints early
- Deliver accessible, responsive, and reliable experiences across devices
- Coordinate with other Engineering teams on shared services, dependencies, and releases to ensure storefront flows work end-to-end
- Improve system performance, availability, resilience, and scalability
- Investigate production incidents, identify root causes, and drive follow-up improvements
- Mentor engineers through feedback, pairing, delegation, and technical guidance
- Help engineers strengthen their technical judgment, ownership, and problem-solving capabilities
- Plan delivery with realistic estimates, clear milestones, and manageable execution plans
- Communicate progress, dependencies, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly across teams
- Make informed technical and delivery trade-offs when priorities change
- Use automation and AI-assisted development where useful while maintaining accountability for correctness, quality, and security
What We’re Looking For:
Core Qualifications:
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience leading projects or mentoring engineers
- Strong hands-on experience building and operating modern web applications and backend services in production
- Experience designing APIs, integrating services, and working with databases and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of software architecture, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and release practices
- Ability to diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and customer reports
- Experience identifying root causes and driving improvements following production incidents
- Strong understanding of web security, authentication, and authorization
- Understanding of safe handling of sensitive customer data
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers through constructive feedback
- Strong ownership of technical quality, delivery, reliability, and production outcomes
- Advanced English skills in writing and speaking
Nice to Have:
- Experience with e-commerce checkout, payments, or high-traffic customer journeys
- Experience with theme systems, templating, customization, or merchant-facing storefront tools
- Experience with performance optimization, accessibility, and responsive design
- Experience building Arabic-language products and right-to-left (RTL) interfaces
- Experience using AI coding agents in production engineering workflows
- Experience working with highly scalable or distributed systems
