About the Role
Philadelphia Solar is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Solar PV to join its engineering team. The role will be responsible for leading and executing the design and engineering activities for Solar PV projects, ensuring technically sound, cost-effective, and compliant solutions from the initial design stage through project execution.
The Senior Design Engineer will work closely with Project Management, Procurement, Sales, Construction, and other technical teams to deliver high-quality PV designs that meet customer requirements, project specifications, and applicable international and local standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and engineering of Solar PV systems for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects.
• Develop conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and IFC design packages.
• Prepare and review PV layouts, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical drawings, cable routing, and equipment layouts.
• Perform PV system simulations and energy yield assessments using PVsyst.
• Optimize system design to maximize energy production, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Select and evaluate PV system components, including modules, inverters, mounting structures, trackers, transformers, and switchgear.
• Prepare and review BOQ/BOM, technical specifications, design calculations, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with Procurement and suppliers to ensure equipment complies with approved technical specifications.
• Review supplier and subcontractor technical submissions and provide technical recommendations.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Construction, Procurement, Sales, and other departments to ensure smooth project execution.
• Provide technical support during installation and commissioning and resolve design-related site issues and RFIs.
• Review and approve engineering drawings and technical deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable IEC standards, Jordanian regulations, NEPCO requirements, and project specifications.
• Support grid connection requirements, including HV systems, protection, SCADA, and power quality where applicable.
• Identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reduction without compromising performance or quality.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Ensure assigned engineering deliverables are completed within required scope, quality, budget, and schedule.
• Maintain and improve internal design standards, templates, and engineering procedures.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Solar PV design and engineering.
• Experience in commercial, industrial, and/or utility-scale Solar PV projects.
• Strong knowledge of PV system design, electrical systems, and renewable energy technologies.
• Strong experience with PVsyst and AutoCAD.
• Experience with Helioscope, SketchUp, Civil 3D, or other relevant design software is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of PV system sizing and configuration, SLDs, electrical layouts, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, BOQ/BOM preparation, inverter and transformer selection, mounting structures and tracking systems, and PV energy yield analysis.
• Knowledge of NEPCO grid requirements and Jordanian grid codes is preferred.
• Experience with BESS is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of engineering standards and technical documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external contractors.
• Fluent in Arabic and English, written and spoken.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in large-scale Solar PV projects, EPC environments, PV manufacturing, project execution, or engineering consultancy will be highly preferred.
