Make an Impact with Petra Ride
Petra Ride operates a ride-hailing platform across Jordan with hundreds of millions of data points, real-time driver positioning, and zone-based pricing and dispatch already running in production. The primitives are in place — geospatial zones, H3-level demand scoring, peak factors, per-zone and per-service dispatch configuration, and a Redshift analytics warehouse. What's missing is the intelligence layer on top. We're hiring an engineer to make pricing and dispatch adaptive rather than configured by hand, and to build the data foundation that makes that possible. This is not a greenfield project and it's not a research role. You'll be working inside a live marketplace where a pricing change affects what riders pay and what drivers earn the same day.
What you'll work on
Dynamic pricing
- Replace statically configured multipliers with demand- and supply
-responsive pricing - Model price elasticity by zone, service class, time of day and season
- Build the guardrails: caps, floors, gradual transitions, and explainability so the business can understand and override any price
- Design and run experiments to measure the effect on conversion, cancellation and driver earnings
Dynamic dispatch configuration
- Move dispatch parameters
— search radius, concurrency, timeouts, matching rules
— from manual per-zone configuration to data-driven tuning
- Use demand and supply signals to adapt dispatch behaviour by zone and time
- Measure against real outcomes: time to match, no-driver-found rate, driver acceptance, cancellations
Data platform
- Design and build a lakehouse on AWS so trip, dispatch, pricing and location data is queryable in one place - Build reliable pipelines from operational systems into the lake - Establish data quality, lineage and freshness standards
— much of the value here is making existing data trustworthy - Support analysts and the business with well-modelled, documented datasets
✨ What We’re Looking For
- 5–8 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field
- Strong SQL and Python, including production data pipeline work
- Experience building and operating data pipelines on AWS
- Solid grounding in data modelling and warehouse design - Geospatial data work — H3, PostGIS or equivalent spatial indexing
- Amazon Redshift
- Experience taking a model or data-driven system into production and owning it afterwards — including when it behaves unexpectedly
- Comfort working in an existing distributed system rather than starting from scratch
- Ability to explain a model's behaviour to non-technical stakeholders
Nice To Have
Experience with Apache Iceberg or similar open table formats.
Experience with AWS SageMaker, including SageMaker Unified Studio.
Experience with Athena, Glue, or EMR.
Experience with experimentation and A/B testing frameworks.
Experience in marketplace, pricing, logistics, mobility, or ride-hailing environments.
Experience working with real-time or near-real-time data.
Arabic and English communication skills.
🌟 Why Petra Ride?
You won’t just be building pipelines and maintaining data infrastructure.
You’ll help shape how Petra Ride makes decisions about pricing, dispatch, supply, and demand.
You’ll work with real marketplace data, solve problems that directly affect riders and drivers, and have the opportunity to turn existing systems into smarter, more adaptive ones.
You’ll have room to challenge how things work today, experiment with new approaches, and build the data foundation behind Petra Ride’s next stage of growth.
🚀 Ready to Make an Impact?
If you enjoy working with complex data, building reliable systems, solving real-world problems, and turning data into better decisions, we’d love to talk to you.
