About the company
Our client runs one of Europe's largest company bike leasing businesses. Employers offer their people a lease bike, most of them electric, as part of their benefits package, and the client handles the leasing, the dealer network and the service. More than 600,000 employees at around 65,000 companies ride through the programme, supported by 8,000 partner dealers.
The business is part of a Dutch family-owned mobility group, and one of Europe's largest automotive financial services groups holds a significant minority stake. It operates across the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and Switzerland, and is growing across Europe and the USA.
The role
The company is bringing its regional platforms together onto one Java and Kotlin platform, built as a modular monolith. Budget is approved and a solution architect and senior engineer are already in place. There are six Java roles open across two teams: one building the new platform, and one integrating the existing platform and migrating it across. Each team is hiring two senior engineers and one mid-senior.
This suits engineers who have done a replatforming or migration before and are comfortable starting without a playbook. If you want a clearly defined backlog from day one, this isn't that yet.
What you'll be doing
- Design and build self-contained modules within a modular monolith, working closely with the solution architect
- Bring regional systems onto the shared platform, including integrations with the existing platform
- Model complex data relationships and tune PostgreSQL schemas for use across many countries
- Build, secure and maintain scalable REST APIs
What you'll need
- 5+ years of backend engineering for the senior roles (mid-senior profiles also considered)
- Deep Java and Spring, strong relational database design, PostgreSQL and Redis (Kotlin welcome)
- CI/CD best practice and mature code review habits
- Comfortable using AI coding tools such as Copilot and agents in everyday work
- High autonomy, a quality-first approach and an async way of working
- Fluent English (German is a plus)
- Nice to have: modular monolith refactoring, Domain-Driven Design, fintech, leasing or financial platforms, experience in fully distributed international teams
