Lead the Engineering Foundations of a High-Growth Technology Business
We're partnered with one of Europe's fastest-growing technology companies, seeking a Foundation Team Lead to lead the engineering team responsible for the core platform that powers the business.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys influencing architecture, writing code, mentoring engineers, and helping shape the technical direction of a modern, product-led organisation.
The Role
You'll lead a team of experienced engineers responsible for the company's core systems, including backend services, platform infrastructure, internal tooling, business-critical systems, and payment-related functionality.
Working closely with Engineering Leadership, Product, and senior stakeholders, you'll help define technical strategy, guide architectural decisions, and ensure engineering investment delivers meaningful business outcomes.
This is not a role focused on micromanagement. The team is highly autonomous and requires a leader who can enable, mentor, and support engineers while remaining technically involved.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of senior engineers
- Drive architecture and system design decisions
- Help define and execute the engineering roadmap
- Collaborate with Product and business stakeholders to align technical priorities with commercial goals
- Contribute hands-on to software development and technical delivery
- Support hiring, mentoring, and career development initiatives
- Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability
Requirements
We're interested in speaking with candidates who have:
- Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Staff Engineer, Lead Engineer, or similar
- Strong backend engineering expertise
- Experience designing and scaling distributed systems
- Solid architecture and system design capabilities
- Commercial awareness and a product mindset
- Experience working closely with senior engineering teams
- A desire to remain hands-on with technology
