About the Role
Philadelphia Solar is seeking a highly experienced Design Manager – Utility Scale Solar PV to lead the engineering and design lifecycle for a large-scale Solar PV project in Jordan. The role will oversee multidisciplinary engineering activities across electrical, civil, and mechanical disciplines, ensuring optimized plant performance, cost efficiency, compliance with international standards, Jordanian grid codes, and Employer Requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the complete design process from conceptual and basic engineering through detailed design and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages.
• Optimize overall plant layout and design, including module placement, tracker configurations, inverter station positioning, and cable routing.
• Review, validate, and approve critical technical deliverables, including SLDs, PVsyst energy yield assessments, structural calculations, civil grading plans, and project documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with NEPCO requirements, Jordanian grid codes, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Oversee HV substation and grid interconnection design.
• Manage technical interfaces related to power quality, protection schemes, and SCADA integration.
• Coordinate with Procurement to define technical specifications for PV modules, mounting structures/trackers, inverters, transformers, and switchgear.
• Conduct technical evaluations of vendor proposals and ensure equipment compliance with project standards and warranty requirements.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for the EPC construction team and resolve design-related RFIs.
• Lead and mentor electrical, civil, and mechanical design engineers.
• Establish and maintain engineering quality control procedures.
• Ensure design activities remain aligned with project scope, budget, and schedule.
Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 5 years specifically in utility-scale Solar PV projects.
• Proven experience as a Design Manager or Lead Engineer on completed PV projects of 50 MW+.
• Strong technical understanding of utility-scale PV systems, inverter topologies, tracker systems, and HV substation design.
• Strong knowledge of Jordanian utility interconnection procedures and NEPCO grid compliance requirements.
• High proficiency in PVsyst, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related engineering software.
• Strong commercial awareness of the impact of design decisions on EPC cost and project financial modeling.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Fluent in Arabic and English, written and spoken.
