Creative Director – Switch Nails
Stockholm | Full-time
Switch Nails is looking for a Creative Director to own, evolve and elevate our creative and visual identity as we enter our next phase of growth.
We are looking for someone with a strong creative point of view and exceptional visual judgement — someone who can build on the distinctive brand world created by our founders and translate it into outstanding creative work.
This is not a role where you simply oversee creative from a distance. You will set the creative standard for Switch Nails, but you will also step in as a senior Art Director on our most important launches, campaigns, shoots and brand moments.
THE ROLE
As Creative Director, you will be the creative guardian of Switch Nails. You will own and continuously develop our creative and visual identity across brand campaigns, content, photography, film, organic social, e-commerce, packaging, retail and physical experiences — working closely with our leadership team and creative organisation.
Building on the strong creative foundation established by our founders, you will help define what should remain consistent, where we should evolve and how the Switch Nails universe can become even stronger as we grow.
At the same time, you will be highly involved in the work itself: developing concepts, setting visual direction, creating layouts and references, and directing shoots together with photographers, filmmakers, designers and other creative specialists.
The role requires someone who can move naturally between creative direction and execution, brand building and craft, long-term thinking and what needs to go live next week.
Switch Nails operates at a high pace, with frequent product launches and a continuous need for new creative output. This is not a role centred around a handful of major campaigns each year. You will create smart ways of working that allow us to produce a high volume of strong creative work without compromising on quality.
Our creative organisation is structured around two complementary areas. While the Creative Director leads our overall brand expression and creative development, paid social and performance creative are managed independently by our dedicated Creative Performance team.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Creative & brand ownership
• Own and continuously evolve the creative and visual identity of Switch Nails.
• Develop and protect a distinctive creative language across typography, colour, imagery, photography, film, graphic design, packaging, retail and digital.
• Establish and uphold a high creative standard across our brand expression.
• Translate our brand strategy, positioning and ambition into a strong and coherent visual world.
Creative direction & concepts
• Lead the creative direction for major brand campaigns, launches, collaborations and brand initiatives.
• Develop strong creative concepts and visual territories together with the wider creative and commercial teams.
• Create briefs, references, moodboards and creative frameworks for teams and external partners.
• Challenge the organisation creatively and continuously raise the level of our output.
Hands-on Art Direction
• Art direct key brand campaigns, launches and shoots.
• Work hands-on with layouts, compositions, typography and visual storytelling when needed.
• Direct photographers, filmmakers, stylists, designers and other creative specialists.
• Review and refine work throughout production to ensure the highest creative standard.
You know when to direct, when to delegate — and when to open the file yourself.
Brand experience
• Translate the Switch Nails universe across e-commerce, organic social, brand campaigns, packaging, stores, pop-ups, events, collaborations and PR.
• Play a key creative role in new stores, pop-ups and retail concepts — working with architects and external partners, reviewing concepts and drawings, and giving confident, actionable feedback.
• Articulate what a space should feel like — from materials, colours, lighting and signage to visual merchandising and the overall customer experience.
Creative systems & leadership
• Develop creative guidelines, design systems, templates and frameworks that help the organisation move quickly without compromising the brand.
• Identify when to use in-house creative resources and when to bring in external specialists, agencies or freelancers.
• Lead and develop relevant members of our in-house creative team, including Content Creators, Graphic Designers and Photographers, with direct people management responsibility.
• Stay curious about new creative tools, including how AI can support ideation, production and creative exploration.
ABOUT YOU
You are an experienced Creative Director, Design Director or Senior Art Director with a strong background in building visually distinctive brands. You have exceptional taste and a highly developed visual eye, but you are also commercially aware.
You think at brand level but care deeply about the details. You can discuss how a visual identity should evolve over the next five years and, shortly afterwards, sit down with a designer and perfect the typography of a campaign.
Most importantly, you are still a maker at heart. You enjoy creating things, not only reviewing them.
You are a natural creative leader with a strong point of view, but without unnecessary ego. You are confident in making creative decisions, setting priorities and driving projects forward, and you thrive in an entrepreneurial environment where the pace is high and not everything has been defined yet.
We believe you have:
• Significant experience within creative direction, art direction or brand design.
• A background from a strong creative agency, premium consumer brand, fashion, beauty, lifestyle or similar environment.
• Experience owning or significantly developing a brand's visual identity.
• Strong hands-on Art Direction experience across campaigns, photography and/or film, including directing shoots.
• A strong understanding of typography, composition, photography, visual storytelling and contemporary brand design.
• Experience across physical and digital brand touchpoints, including working with architects or retail designers on stores or pop-ups.
• Experience briefing and managing agencies, freelancers and external creative partners.
• Experience leading and developing creative people.
• Fluency in relevant creative and design tools, and curiosity about AI and emerging creative workflows.
A strong portfolio is essential. We are particularly interested in work where you can clearly explain your role, the thinking behind the idea and how you personally contributed to the final creative expression.
