Overall objective of the position
The Agronomist provides technical support to ensure that agricultural kits, farming practices and technical training delivered under the project are appropriate to beneficiaries' needs and to the agro-ecological context of Akkar and supports the planning and implementation of technical training in close coordination with the MoA.

Principali compiti e responsabilità
Key responsibilities
Farmer identification, registration and kit adequacy (Activities A1.1-A1.2)
- Support community entry and sensitization: introduce the project to local community and authorities in the Akkar Area.
- Assist in disseminating project information (objectives, eligibility criteria, complaint/feedback channels) to communities during the inception period.
- Contribute technical criteria to the MoA-led farmer registration and validation process, ensuring selected farmers and their production systems match the agro-ecological conditions and value chains targeted by the project.
- Identify and evaluate the composition of agricultural kits (drip irrigation systems, seeds, fertilizer, beekeeping kits, greenhouse materials and other basic tools) to ensure their suitability to the specific needs of Akkar farmers across the olive, fruit, vegetable, cereal and beekeeping value chains.
- Provide technical sign-off on kit specifications before procurement and distribution, in coordination with the Distribution Officer.
Technical training and coaching (Activity A2.1)
- Manage, in coordination with the MoA Akkar Extension Office, the planning and implementation of on-site technical training and coaching for farmers (12 cycles of 8 days, approx. 288 training hours, targeting 250 farmers).
- Develop or adapt technical training content on sustainable agricultural practices for the relevant value chains, ensuring content is practical and locally adapted.
- Support the scheduling and logistical coordination of MoA on-site monitoring visits linked to the training cycle.
Monitoring and technical support during implementation
- Monitor how distributed kits and inputs are used by beneficiary farmers, identifying technical issues or misuse and proposing corrective action.
- Provide ad hoc technical support to the Field Coordinator, Distribution Officer and cooperative/UoM partners during implementation of Result 1 activities (machinery and post-harvest equipment for the Chadra Cooperative and UoM, and the Bokayaa irrigation canal rehabilitation), flagging agronomic considerations relevant to these works.
- Contribute agronomic input to the TVET curriculum (orchard/horticulture management and beekeeping tracks) and to the on-the-job training component, as needed.
Coordination and reporting
- Maintain a regular technical working relationship with the MoA Akkar Extension Office and relevant technical staff at the Chadra Cooperative and UoM.
- Report regularly to the Field Coordinator/Project Manager on technical progress, risks and needs, and contribute technical content to donor reporting as requested.
- Work under the technical guidance of the Agriculture Advisor, incorporating guidance from field validation missions into activity implementation.
- Key deliverables
- Technical adequacy assessment/sign-off for agricultural kit composition, prior to procurement.
- Technical training plan and curriculum for the 12 training cycles, developed jointly with the MoA.
- Periodic field monitoring notes on kit use and uptake by beneficiary farmers.
- Technical input to project progress reports, as requested by the Field Coordinator/Project Manager
Requisiti essenziali
- University degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, or a closely related field.
- Practical knowledge of the olive, fruit, vegetable, cereal and/or beekeeping value chains relevant to the Akkar context.
- Prior experience coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture or similar government technical bodies is an asset.
- Experience designing and delivering farmer training and coaching.
- Familiarity with the Akkar region and its farming communities is an asset.
- Fluency in Arabic; working proficiency in English required for reporting and coordination with AVSI and AICS.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel frequently to field sites across Akkar.

- Strong technical/agronomic judgement combined with practical, field-oriented problem solving.
- Good coordination and interpersonal skills, able to work with government counterparts, cooperative members and farmers.
