Job DescriptionThe Cardiology Technician plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients with cardiovascular conditions . This position requires a combination of technical skills, medical knowledge, and patient care expertise to ensure the efficient operation of the cardiology department.
Patient Care:
- * Perform diagnostic tests: Conduct and assist with a variety of cardiac diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (ECG), stress tests, Holter monitoring, and echocardiograms under the supervision of a cardiologist or other healthcare provider.
- Prepare patients: Properly prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process, ensuring their comfort, and obtaining relevant medical history to assist in accurate diagnosis.
- Assist healthcare providers: Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide support during procedures, answer patient questions, and ensure the smooth flow of patient care
Patient Education and Support:
- * Assesses patient educational and needs and interacts with relevant staff and departments to facilitate requirement.
- Educate patients: Provide patients with information on cardiovascular conditions, diagnostic procedures, and lifestyle changes to improve heart health.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families during challenging times.
- Ensure patients understand discharge instructions and follow-up care.
Collaboration and Communication:
- * Work collaboratively with physicians, Nurses, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure seamless transitions of care and optimal patient outcomes.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- * Record and document results: Accurately record test results, patient information, and other relevant data in electronic medical records (EMR) systems for review by healthcare providers.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding patient documentation.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all time
Safety and Infection Control:
- * Maintain equipment: Ensure that all cardiology equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly to produce accurate test results
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of healthcare-associated infections.
- Implement safety measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors from accidents and injuries.
- Identify and address potential safety hazards in the healthcare environment.
- Identifies and reports defective or broken equipment, safety hazards and environmental hazards.
Professional Development:
- * Participate in ongoing training: Stay current with advances in cardiology technology, procedures, and best practices through continuous education and training opportunities.
- Seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development through workshops, seminars, and certifications.
- Demonstrates and maintains competence in all mandatory competencies.
- Maintain current licensure and certifications required for the position.
Quality Improvement and Compliance:
- * Ensure compliance: Adhere to all relevant regulations, protocols, and safety standards to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patient complaints and concerns. Initiates the nursing of administrative chain of command if unable to resolve patient issues
- Assists the Head Nurse of the unit by willing acceptance of any other work-related responsibility.
- Other duties assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the job.
Skills
- * High school diploma or equivalent; certification or associate degree in cardiovascular technology or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in cardiology or a related field.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and common cardiac conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. and the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare technology.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing patient needs and environments.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification as needed
- Service mindset
- Work may involve standing for long periods, lifting/moving equipment, and interacting with patients in various states of health.
- May require occasional evening or weekend shifts to accommodate patient schedules.
