Lean Technologies is a fast-growing fintech company building the financial data infrastructure for the MENA region. Operating in a highly regulated, security-sensitive environment, we serve mission-critical financial services that demand robust SLAs, strict security controls, and highly scalable systems.
As a Staff DevOps & Site Reliability Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of DevOps, platform engineering, and SRE, owning the architecture, reliability strategy, and scalability of our infrastructure across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
This is a high-impact role where you will define how infrastructure is built, operated, and scaled across the company not just implement it.
The Moment:
Lean has tripled in size over the past twelve months and weʼre on track to triple again next year.
What started as the regionʼs pioneering Open Finance platform is evolving into a multi-product infrastructure company powering payments, data, and lending across MENA.
We are expanding into new markets, launching new products, and operating at increasing scale and complexity.
Weʼve processed billions of dollars in transactions, serve 350+ clients (including Tabby, Tasʼheel, and Hungerstation), and are backed by General Catalyst, Sequoia, and Shorooq.
This role is critical in ensuring our infrastructure can scale securely, reliably, and efficiently to support that growth.
What You’ll Do:
- Define and own the infrastructure architecture strategy across hybrid cloud (GCP, OCI, on-prem)
- Design and evolve Kubernetes platforms for multi-region scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency
- Establish and drive Infrastructure as Code and GitOps standards across all environments
- Build and scale observability systems (metrics, logging, tracing) to support proactive reliability
- Lead efforts to meet and exceed SLA, SLO, and error budget targets
- Own and improve incident management processes, including postmortems and systemic fixes
- Drive automation strategy across provisioning, scaling, patching, and operations
- Champion security, compliance, and reliability best practices (SOC 2, ISO 27001, CIS benchmarks)
- Partner with engineering teams to improve developer experience and platform usability
- Mentor engineers and act as a technical leader across DevOps and infrastructure domains
Must-Have Technical Skills
- 8+ years of experience in DevOps / SRE / Platform Engineering
- Strong experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale
Deep expertise in:
- Linux systems and internals
- Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing, firewalls)
- Kubernetes (design, operations, and troubleshooting)
- Terraform (or equivalent IaC tools)
- Strong programming/scripting skills (Python, Go, or similar)
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments (GCP, OCI preferred)
Additional Technical Experience
- CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD)
- Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry)
- Datastores: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
- Security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, CIS)
- Performance optimization in distributed systems
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in fintech or highly regulated environments
- Strong understanding of multi-region and high-availability architectures
- Exposure to edge/network platforms (e.g., Cloudflare)
- Experience with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd)
- Strong documentation and runbook culture
- Passion for building resilient, scalable infrastructure platforms
NB. While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply!!
Why Join us?
We’re building the financial infrastructure for MENA. Not as a slogan, as a fact.
Since 2019, we’ve become the first regulated Open Banking and Open Finance company operating across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. We’ve processed billions of dollars. We connect millions of accounts. We enable companies like Binance, Careem, and Etisalat to build products that were previously impossible in this region.
Our recent $67.5M Series B from General Catalyst and Sequoia isn’t just validation: it’s fuel. We’re expanding into new markets, launching new products, and setting the pace for what financial innovation looks like in MENA.
We solve hard problems. We move fast. We hold ourselves to a high standard. And we’re looking for people who’ve done this before to help us do it right.
If you’re motivated by building something that lasts, not just something that scales, Lean is where you need to be.
Not only do we offer competitive salaries, private healthcare, and flexible office hours, but we also insist that every member of the team hold a meaningful equity stake in the business to ensure long-term alignment. We'd love you to join us for this journey!
Lean is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.
