We are seeking an experienced and qualified Specialist Emergency Medicine physician to provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies. The specialist will assess, stabilize, diagnose, and manage patients across a broad range of emergency conditions while ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide prompt assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and treatment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Manage medical, surgical, traumatic, pediatric, and other acute emergency conditions within the scope of practice.
- Perform focused history taking and comprehensive physical examinations.
- Initiate appropriate investigations, including laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging.
- Interpret ECGs, laboratory results, and relevant imaging findings as required.
- Perform emergency procedures such as suturing, wound management, splinting, incision and drainage, and other procedures appropriate to emergency medicine practice.
- Recognize and manage life-threatening conditions, including cardiac arrest, shock, respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, and major trauma.
- Participate in resuscitation and advanced life-support activities.
- Coordinate referrals and admissions with relevant specialist departments.
- Ensure appropriate discharge planning, follow-up instructions, and patient education.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and clinical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, paramedics, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical handovers, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control procedures, patient-safety standards, and applicable UAE healthcare regulations.
- Participate in continuing medical education, departmental teaching, audits, and professional development activities.
- Provide appropriate consultation to other departments regarding emergency or acute clinical issues.
- Maintain professional communication with patients and their families, particularly during critical or high-stress situations.
Emergency Procedures & Clinical Skills
The Specialist should be competent, as applicable to the facility and scope of practice, in:
- Adult and pediatric resuscitation
- Advanced life-support procedures
- Airway management
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Emergency vascular access
- ECG interpretation
- Trauma assessment and stabilization
- Wound care and suturing
- Fracture and dislocation management
- Splinting and immobilization
- Management of acute poisoning and overdose
- Sepsis assessment and management
- Acute cardiac and respiratory emergencies
- Point-of-care assessment and emergency bedside procedures
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Recognized postgraduate qualification in Emergency Medicine appropriate for Specialist-level practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced life-support certification such as ACLS and other relevant certifications as required by the employer.
Experience
- Relevant post-specialization clinical experience in Emergency Medicine.
- Experience working in a hospital Emergency Department or comparable acute-care setting.
- Demonstrated experience managing critically ill and trauma patients.
- Experience with emergency procedures, resuscitation, and multidisciplinary acute-care management.
