KBR is looking for a Site Electrical Supervisor to be based in Basra, Iraq – Daily Commute
MAIN MISSIONS
- Ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality execution of all electrical construction, installation, testing, and pre-commissioning activities at site.
- Supervise EPC Contractor and subcontractors electrical works in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, method statements, ITPs, applicable codes, and COMPANY requirements.
- Coordinate electrical activities with construction, engineering, QA/QC, HSE, commissioning, and other disciplines to achieve the project schedule and system priorities.
- Identify technical, quality, safety, and constructability issues, and ensure timely resolution and close-out.
- Support mechanical completion, energization readiness, commissioning, and handover of electrical systems.
KEY ACTIVITIES
Site Supervision and Construction Control
- Supervise daily electrical construction activities, including installation of HV, MV, and LV equipment and systems.
- Monitor installation of transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, generators, UPS and DC systems, distribution boards, power and control cables, lighting, small power, earthing, lightning protection, and electrical heat tracing where applicable.
- Verify equipment location, orientation, access, supports, interfaces, and installation against approved AFC drawings and vendor requirements.
- Ensure cable tray, ladder, conduit, cable pulling, segregation, dressing, glanding, termination, identification, and fire-stopping works comply with project requirements.
- Monitor preservation, storage, handling, and protection of electrical equipment and materials at site.
- Ensure work fronts are properly planned and that required drawings, materials, tools, access, permits, and preceding works are available.
Technical Compliance and Quality
- Ensure execution in accordance with approved AFC drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, vendor documentation, method statements, ITPs, and applicable international standards.
- Participate in inspection requests and witness required hold and witness points with QA/QC personnel.
- Inspect equipment installation, bolted connections, cable routing and segregation, terminations, earthing connections, labelling, and general workmanship.
- Witness or review electrical tests, as applicable, including insulation resistance, continuity, earthing resistance, winding resistance, ratio tests, protection relay tests, cable tests, functional checks, and interlock verification.
- Review and follow up punch items, site observations, non-conformities, and corrective actions until closure.
- Assist in checking red-line mark-ups, test records, inspection reports, and as-built documentation.
Contractor Supervision and Progress
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor manpower, supervision, productivity, work quality, and compliance with the approved construction schedule.
- Review short-term work plans and report constraints, delays, interface issues, and recovery requirements to the Electrical Superintendent or Construction Manager.
- Attend daily coordination meetings, site walkthroughs, progress reviews, toolbox talks, and technical meetings as required.
- Prepare clear daily and weekly reports covering progress, manpower, inspections, constraints, quality issues, HSE observations, and planned activities.
- Ensure contractor personnel assigned to specialized electrical work are competent and appropriately authorized.
Interfaces, Completion and Commissioning
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, piping, instrumentation, telecom, HVAC, package vendors, and commissioning teams.
- Ensure foundations, embedded items, sleeves, trenches, rooms, supports, cable routes, and equipment access are ready before electrical installation.
- Support systemization, mechanical completion checks, punch-listing, turnover dossier preparation, and handover by system or subsystem.
- Participate in energization readiness reviews and ensure outstanding construction, quality, and safety items are controlled before energization.
- Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including vendor attendance, functional testing, loop and interlock checks, and troubleshooting.
HSE RESPONSIBILITY
- Ensure electrical works are performed in accordance with project HSE requirements, approved risk assessments, method statements, permit-to-work procedures, and isolation rules.
- Pay particular attention to electrical safety, lockout/tagout, temporary power, excavation and underground services, lifting operations, work at height, confined spaces, and simultaneous operations.
- Intervene and stop unsafe work when necessary, report unsafe acts and conditions, and verify implementation of corrective measures.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety walks, audits, incident investigations, and lessons-learned activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure good housekeeping in electrical work areas, substations, electrical rooms, and cable routes.
Professional Experience
- More than 10 years of relevant experience in electrical construction and site supervision on large EPC/EPSCC projects in oil and gas, power generation, water treatment, utilities, or major industrial facilities.
- Significant field experience supervising electrical installation, testing, pre-commissioning, and handover activities.
Experience in Similar Position
- Previous experience as Site Electrical Supervisor, Electrical Construction Supervisor, or equivalent position on a major project.
- Hands-on experience with HV, MV, and LV systems; transformers; switchgear; MCCs; UPS and DC systems; power and control cables; earthing; lighting; and electrical equipment associated with rotating and packaged equipment.
- Experience in power generation facilities, large pumping stations, substations, or water treatment plants is preferred.
- Experience on Middle East projects and/or remote construction sites is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction methods, installation practices, inspection requirements, testing, energization, and completion processes.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, equipment layouts, earthing layouts, interconnection diagrams, vendor drawings, and AFC documentation.
- Good understanding of electrical interfaces with civil, mechanical, instrumentation, telecom, HVAC, and package systems.
- Familiarity with ITP, RFI, NCR, punch-list, mechanical completion, turnover, and quality-record processes.
- Working knowledge of applicable IEC, IEEE, NFPA, ISO, and project-specific standards and requirements.
- Competence in reporting, progress monitoring, work-front planning, and use of standard office applications.
Level / Diploma
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- A recognized technical diploma in Electrical Engineering may be accepted with substantial relevant site experience.
- Relevant electrical safety, HV authorization, commissioning, or construction supervision training is an advantage.
Languages
- Proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
