For our office in Riyadh, we are looking for
Senior Traffic and Detour Engineer (PMC) - 100% (m/f)The ideal candidate should have the ability to lead the PMC's technical review of traffic engineering designs, temporary traffic management plans, and road diversion proposals, ensuring that all submissions meet project requirements, applicable standards, and road authority requirements while maintaining safe access and minimizing disruption during construction
Responsibilities:
- Review and provide technical recommendations on traffic engineering studies, traffic impact assessments, temporary traffic management plans, and detour designs submitted by consultants and contractors.
- Assess diversion alignments, junction layouts, lane configurations, traffic capacity, construction staging, signage, road markings, barriers, lighting, and pedestrian and cyclist provisions.
- Verify that proposed arrangements maintain safe access for residents, businesses, public transport, emergency services, and construction activities.
- Review traffic surveys, capacity analyses, modelling assumptions, and operational assessments to evaluate the impacts of proposed diversions.
- Coordinate reviews with highway, utilities, structural, construction, and health and safety teams to resolve design interfaces and constructability issues.
- Liaise with the client, road authorities, traffic police, consultants, and contractors to support permits, approvals, and implementation planning.
- Issue clear, consolidated review comments; track responses and verify closure before recommending acceptance within the PMC's delegated authority.
- Participate in road safety audits and confirm that relevant findings are addressed in revised designs and traffic management proposals.
- Conduct site inspections before and after diversion implementation to verify compliance with reviewed plans and identify required corrective actions.
- Review contractor proposals for changes to approved traffic arrangements and assess their safety, operational, and programme implications.
- Monitor traffic performance during construction and recommend improvements where congestion, access restrictions, or safety concerns arise.
- Prepare technical reports, review registers, progress updates, and recommendations for the PMC management team and client.
Requirements:
- * Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, road design, temporary traffic management, and diversion planning.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing traffic and detour designs for major road, infrastructure, or urban development projects.
- Previous experience in a PMC, supervision consultancy, or client representative role.
- Strong knowledge of applicable traffic engineering standards, road safety principles, and local authority approval procedures.
- Experience assessing traffic operations under phased construction and constrained urban conditions.
- Professional engineering registration or chartered status is preferred.
- Relevant regional experience and familiarity with local road authority requirements are preferred.
