Your new role
As a Senior PHP Backend Developer within the Growth & Expansion team, you will be responsible for developing robust server-side functionality, solving complex architectural challenges, and building scalable cloud-based services. Based full-time in the Riyadh office, you will deliver bulletproof software while collaborating closely with the wider global engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, developing, and extending hyper-secure enterprise web applications and cloud services.
- Building and optimizing backend systems using modern PHP ecosystems (PHP 8.2+, Composer, PHPUnit), MongoDB, NodeJS, and AWS/Azure.
- Integrating databases, file systems, caching layers (Memcached/Redis), and search technologies (Solr).
- Resolving complex architectural hurdles, troubleshooting customer-reported issues, and delivering timely software patches.
- Leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) within daily development workflows to accelerate code generation, review, and documentation.
What you'll need to succeed
- Location: Based in or willing to relocate to Riyadh, KSA (fully office-based role).
- Overall Experience: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in web application development and core PHP backend engineering.
- PHP Mastery: Deep proficiency in modern PHP ecosystems (PHP 8.2+, Composer, PHPUnit) and object-oriented programming/design patterns.
- Core Technical Competencies: Hands-on expertise in client-server architecture, RESTful APIs, HTTP protocols, automated testing, and version control (Git).
- AI-Assisted Workflows: Comfort and proficiency using modern AI coding tools in daily engineering tasks.
- Languages & Communication: Highly proficient in spoken and written English with strong cross-team communication skills.
- Desirable Extras: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, knowledge of modern PHP frameworks, NoSQL/MongoDB, Docker, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), or secondary experience in Node.js/TypeScript.
