Senior Electrical Engineer 100% (m/f)
The Ideal Candidate will have a strong electrical design and engineering background in MV distribution and power systems, with the technical depth to independently own the electrical scope of large, complex projects. They will be confident producing and defending design calculations and deliverables, steering designs through utility and authority approval, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, reliable and maintainable power systems.
Responsibilities:
- Independently lead and develop the electrical power design, including MV distribution, LV interfaces, substations, transformers, switchgear, standby generation, UPS, critical power, earthing and lightning protection.
- Prepare and check electrical design calculations and studies, including load schedules, cable sizing, voltage drop, load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, relay settings and arc flash.
- Produce and review design reports, specifications, single-line diagrams, drawings, BOQs, technical queries and design response documentation.
- Prepare DEWA design submissions, including 11kV and substation applications, metering, load schedules and NOC packages, and drive them through the authority approval process to energisation.
- Define standby generator, synchronisation, UPS and critical power architecture, including essential loads, resilience provisions, selectivity, maintainability and operational constraints.
- Specify explosion-proof and hazardous-area electrical requirements for fuel, paint, chemical, maintenance and other classified zones, including equipment certification and installation details.
- Review switchgear, transformer, generator, UPS, protection relay, cable and other electrical equipment submittals, datasheets, ITPs, FAT/SAT procedures and test certificates against the design.
- Coordinate electrical power requirements with mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, ELV/ICT, controls, civil, utilities, architecture, structure, BIM/CAD and construction teams.
- Lead design review meetings, technical workshops and utility/authority coordination sessions, and close out technical comments.
- Provide design support during testing, commissioning, energisation planning and operational handover of electrical power systems.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; chartered status is an advantage.
- Minimum 12 years of electrical engineering experience with a strong design and engineering focus, including at least 6 years of electrical design on MV distribution and power systems in the UAE.
- Demonstrated capability to independently deliver the full electrical design scope of large, complex projects; a background focused mainly on site supervision or construction delivery is not suitable for this role.
- Practical, hands-on experience with DEWA regulations, standards, authority requirements and approval procedures, including 11kV submissions, substation approvals, metering, load schedules, NOCs and energisation, is mandatory.
- Airport or aviation facilities experience is required, preferably including critical power, substations, hangars, MRO facilities, fuel areas or large operational facilities.
- Experience on major building or infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Strong design knowledge of 11kV switchgear, ring main units, transformers, protection coordination, relay settings, earthing and lightning protection, standby generators, synchronisation, UPS, critical power, load flow, short-circuit and arc flash studies.
- Experience with explosion-proof or ATEX electrical requirements, including IEC 60079 equipment selection, Ex certification review, cable glanding, sealing and classified-zone coordination.
- Experience reviewing vendor documents, equipment datasheets, FAT/SAT procedures, routine and type test certificates and commissioning documentation.
- Good knowledge of IEC 60076, IEC 60079, IEC 61439, BS 7671 or NEC, DEWA regulations, IEEE 141/242 and relevant UAE codes and standards.
- Ability to clearly present and defend design decisions and to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering, BIM/CAD, procurement, client, contractor, supplier and authority stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal English, leadership capability, analytical thinking and strong technical reporting skills.
We Offer:
- Opportunity to collaborate with a forward-thinking, synergistic, and innovative team.
- Exposure to cutting-edge projects driving Middle East / North African regions development.
- Personalized professional growth and developmental avenues tailored to your career aspirations.
