The position supports and administers all scale house procedures and processes for incoming, outgoing log and lumber loads. This person will report to the Sawmill Superintendent. The primary function of a Greenville Log Scaler is to safely inspect every load, count the number of stems, inspect logs for specified defects, determine the average length, input the information accurately and efficiently process the loads through the scales.
Key Functions
- Visually checks loads of logs for specification accuracy
- Record and communicate any load errors for correction Interfaces with contract trucking staff on daily basis
- Verifies accuracy of data
- Participates in the development of written processes
- Complete and maintain paperwork and reports indicating loads delivered by contractors, weight per truck, and running inventory of daily receipts
- Will routinely use Microsoft Office applications, Weightwiz and SAP
- Will do general clean-up of scale house and surrounding area.
- Will conduct log rollouts with QC and Raw Materials
- Responsible for other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to pass the Weighmaster exam administered by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF)
- Highly motivated self-starter who performs well in a team environment, providing a high degree of customer service.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Able to handle multiple priorities and take pride in accuracy and quality of work.
- Able to perform basic math and computer operations.
- Able to work any shift schedule and weekends/holidays.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.
- Ability to work in extreme heat/or cold/ or wet conditions in an outdoor environment
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which include fast paced walking, high volume truck load inspections (includes walking front to back of loads), navigating outdoor walkways and surfaces.

- Experienced in operating heavy equipment (forklift, knuckle boom, hydraulic load, cranes).
- Prior experience working with truck drivers
- Experience in inspection, inventory controls and operations of truck scales.
- Experience as a log scaler
