Job Summary
The Road Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, supervision, inspection, and maintenance of road and highway infrastructure projects. The role requires practical experience in highway engineering, with a strong understanding of road construction methods, specifications, quality standards, and applicable Dubai/UAE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor road construction and highway infrastructure works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Review road design drawings, specifications, method statements, material submittals, and technical documents.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, utility authorities, and other project stakeholders to resolve technical and site-related issues.
- Inspect road works, including earthworks, subgrade, sub-base, road base, asphalt works, kerbs, pavements, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
- Monitor construction progress and ensure works are completed according to approved schedules and quality requirements.
- Verify quantities, measurements, and completed works for progress reporting and payment certification.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Dubai/UAE road standards, specifications, health and safety requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Review and monitor material testing, laboratory results, field tests, and quality control records.
- Identify construction defects, non-conformities, and technical issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Prepare and maintain site inspection reports, progress reports, technical reports, and other project documentation.
- Participate in site meetings, technical coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
- Assist in reviewing contractor claims, variations, and requests for information where required.
- Monitor traffic management and temporary road arrangements during construction to ensure safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
- Coordinate road works with drainage, utilities, street lighting, landscaping, and other infrastructure works.
- Conduct regular site inspections and ensure that construction activities comply with approved drawings and project specifications.
- Support testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover of completed road infrastructure works.
- Perform other engineering duties related to road and highway projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in highway/road engineering.
- At least 1 year of professional experience in Dubai.
- Good knowledge of road construction, pavement works, earthworks, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection procedures, and quality control requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable Dubai/UAE road and infrastructure standards and authority requirements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; knowledge of relevant engineering/project management software is an advantage.
- Good communication, coordination, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on road construction, rehabilitation, widening, or infrastructure projects in Dubai.
- Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, and relevant government/utility authorities.
- Experience in road inspection, quality control, quantity verification, and project documentation.
- Knowledge of asphalt paving, pavement materials, road markings, traffic management, and road safety works.
