The Opportunity
- Egypt’s Risk Manager is part of GRM function at MetLife that operates independently from the first (Business) and third lines (Internal Audit) of defense to avoid any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest or undue influence.
- The purpose of this position is to provide a framework for MetLife’s lines of business and corporate functions to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks, and help the first line establish solid operational risk management controls in business processes through providing oversight, monitoring, and independent challenge to the business.
- The Risk Manager also has a role to oversee financial risks in coordination with local financial functions (such as CFO, Controller, Actuarial, Investment teams, etc.) and with the regional Subject matter experts from EMEA Risk team to ensure adequate local oversight of financial risks such as liquidity, solvency, investment, concentration, and market risks
- Manages direct reports in the Risk management team (as applicable) ensuring that team activities are performed in line with MetLife standards, regulatory expectations, and the Three Lines of Defense Model.
- Egypt’s Risk Manager ensures independent oversight of risk management activities within the company in accordance with regulatory governance requirements FRA Decree 200 of 2025 and MetLife internal policies Being part of the company’s 2nd line of defense, this position sets guardrails, monitors risks, and provides strategic advice and challenge to the Business (1st line).
Key ResponsibilitiesRisks are governed by MetLife Non-Financial Risk Framework, which covers compliance and operational risks (collective, “non-financial risks” or “NFR”). The NFR Framework includes the NFR Management Policy, Risk and Issue Rating Framework, and NFR Taxonomy, as well as standards for risk assessments, risk events, and issue management.
RoleRisk Manager’s role is to Create and Lead a vision and process that the business in the Country operation is conducted compliantly and within the risk appetite thus avoiding any negative impact in the below main areas:
- Customer protection and process execution risk, including operational risks related to sales compensation, sales-related fraud and other prohibited activities, and customer benefit payment risk, including transactions processing and compliance with customer contracts.
- Practice adequate local oversight of financial risks such as liquidity, solvency, investment, concentration, and market risks to ensure that the country operates within locally required guidelines and the risk appetite established at MetLife
- Develops and establishes guardrails for risk taking as the organization pursues its strategic objectives and business plan.
- Guide and Coordinate with the business around principles that define operational risks that are assumed while being actively managed and controlled, and risks that should be avoided by establishing appropriate risk appetite levels, risk limits and guidelines.
- Country Risk Manager has unfettered and direct access (consistent with local laws and regulations) to all resources, including data, documents, and personnel that are necessary to effectively execute risk oversight responsibilities.
- Leverage AI capabilities to automate processes within the function and enhance the quality of reporting as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- * Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Risk Management in financial services (subject to local regulatory approval- as applicable)
Detailed knowledge of regulatory operational risk requirements with depth of FRA corporate governance regulations
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, and presentation)
- Ability to work and adapt in changing environment and to deliver across multiple deadlines
- Practical experience of preparing and running productive meetings that support debate amongst senior management and lead to critical decisions
- Strong interpersonal skills and analytical skills to support local country management in taking risk-based and compliant decisions that promote responsible growth
- A minimum of Business Administration BA degree in business, accounting, finance, or any other relevant specialty related to risk management field from a university accredited by local authorities
