Research Analyst – Commodities

SummaryWe are seeking a Commodities Research Analyst to support our trading and sales teams through robust fundamental and quantitative market analysis. The role involves building and maintaining supply–demand models, analysing market drivers, developing price outlooks, and producing clear, actionable research to support risk management, trading strategies, and investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, and analyse data on production, consumption, inventories, trade flows, and prices across assigned commodities.
- Maintain and enhance fundamental balance models, cost curves, and scenario frameworks to support market views.
- Monitor macroeconomic indicators, policy developments, weather, and geopolitical events and assess their impact on market dynamics.
- Produce regular research outputs including daily/weekly market updates, thematic reports, and presentation materials.
- Support traders and sales with ad-hoc analysis, chartbooks, dashboards, and briefing materials for client interaction.
- Contribute to short- and medium-term price outlooks and risk scenarios, highlighting key drivers, risks, and uncertainties.
- Maintain structured databases, spreadsheets, and code repositories to ensure research processes are robust, consistent, and repeatable.
Required Qualifications
- * Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 1–3 years of experience in commodities research, macro/market analysis, risk, or financial analytics (strong internships considered).
- Strong analytical and numerical capability, with confidence working in Excel and with large datasets.
- Experience with analytical/programming tools (such as Python, R, SQL, or similar) is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of economic and market principles; familiarity with futures and derivatives markets is a plus.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, concise insights, charts, and written conclusions.
- High attention to detail with disciplined data validation and model maintenance.
- Curious, commercially aware mindset with strong interest in commodity markets and macroeconomic trends.
- Strong communication skills; able to articulate research views to traders, sales teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
